According to VGC, Grant Kirkhope, the composer of Banjo-Kazooie, expressed his belief that another game in the series is unlikely. He indicated that there may not be a sufficient demand from players for it and suggested that both the development team and the player-base have moved on from that era.
Grant Kirkhope has composed music for games such as “Banjo-Kazooie,” “GoldenEye 007,” “Perfect Dark,” “Donkey Kong 64,” and “Yooka-Laylee,” among others. Kirkhope’s musical compositions are often praised for their catchy melodies and playful tones, which have become synonymous with the games he has worked on. He has gained a significant following among video game music enthusiasts and is considered one of the prominent composers in the industry.
“I feel like you’d have to get a team with the humour that we had back then and that’s hard to replicate,” he said.
“I think Rare would be open to somebody if they found the right team, but I don’t feel like that team exists. Also, I’m not convinced the audience is there either.”
During the late 2010s, when remasters of games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot gained popularity, many players expressed their desire for a new Banjo-Kazooie game or a remake of the original titles.
Banjo-Kazooie franchise in limbo!
In response to this demand, a group of developers who worked on the original Banjo-Kazooie came together to create a spiritual successor called Yooka-Laylee. However, the enthusiasm surrounding this genre of platformer games appears to have diminished since then.
It is difficult to determine why Banjo-Kazooie hasn’t been remade. However, one possibility is that the rights and ownership of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise are held by different entities, making the process of securing permissions and negotiating deals more complicated. Additionally, deciding to remake a game involves market demand, financial viability, and resource allocation.
The developers and publishers may prioritize other projects or believe that the need for a Banjo-Kazooie remake is not significant enough to warrant the investment of time and resources. Ultimately, the decision to remake a game depends on various factors and is determined by the interests and strategies of the companies involved.
