EA has confirmed the development of an upcoming Black Panther game based on the popular Marvel superhero. The game is being developed by a new Seattle-based development studio called Cliffhanger Games, which is being led by Kevin Stephens, the former studio head of Monolith Productions during the development of the Shadow of Mordor franchise.
The new game will be an original third-person, single-player adventure set in the vibrant world of Wakanda. Cliffhanger Games aims to create an expansive and reactive world that empowers players to experience what it is like to take on the mantle of Wakanda’s protector, the Black Panther.
The team at Cliffhanger Games includes veterans from top franchises such as Halo Infinite, God of War, and Call of Duty, who have come together to create an authentic Black Panther experience for fans of the superhero. The development team will be working in partnership with Marvel Games to ensure that every aspect of Wakanda, its technology, its heroes, and its original story are crafted with the attention to detail and authenticity that the world of Black Panther deserves.
“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do,” said Kevin Stephens.
EA has not yet announced a release window or intended platforms for the Black Panther game. However, the project is confirmed to be part of a multi-title deal signed by EA and Marvel in October for at least three action-adventure games for console and PC. The first of these announced was an Iron Man game from Motive Studios, the makers of Star Wars: Squadrons, and the upcoming Dead Space remake.

The Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games is still early in development, with a long road ahead, according to EA. However, the prospect of a Black Panther game from some of the brains behind Shadow of Mordor is an exciting one, and fans of the superhero can expect an immersive and authentic experience set in the world of Wakanda.
