What date is Minecraft 1.19 The Wild Update coming out?

The Minecraft Wild Update is available to download now, with version 1.19 launching around 4pm UK time today (Tuesday June 7).

Announcing the release in a blog post, Mojang said: “The Wild Update is finally here! If you haven’t already, you can download it for  Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch,  iOS,  Android, and Windows – and Minecraft: Java Edition on Windows,  macOS, and Linux. On Windows, you can even play both editions, because Java & Bedrock for PC is out today! There are even two free character creator items out for Bedrock Edition, so with everything happening today we really don’t have any time to waste.

“Once you install the update, your game will now feature two new biomes – the deep dark and mangrove swamps – four new mobs – the warden, the allay, frogs, and tadpoles – and blocks galore, including sculk, mangrove wood, and mud!”

What is coming in Minecraft 1.19 The Wild Update?

The Wild Update will add new biomes, mobs, and blocks to Minecraft. There is going to be so much to explore, so let’s take a look at what’s coming so we can plan our first expedition accordingly.

The Overworld is getting two brand new biomes – the deep dark and the mangrove swamp. The deep dark lies far below the surface. To get there, find the base of a cave and start digging (not straight) down. Keep your eyes but mainly your ears peeled. One of the many remarkable things about this biome is how silent it is. That is, until you set off a shrieker. Don’t worry, the name is misleading! If you trigger it, you can expect sweet nothings to be whispered into your ears. If you set off a shrieker, you have until the fourth shriek to get out of there unless you want to come face to face with the only mob that dwells in the deep dark. But before you go, don’t forget to use silk touch to mine some of the other forms of sculk blocks that are only found in this very scary biome.

If horror isn’t your cup of tea, why not retreat to the safety of the mangrove swamp? Unless you hate trees with big roots. In which case, you might want to move on because these swamps are full of just that, namely mangrove trees. As majestic as they are magnificent, they aren’t just decorative but also bring a new type of wood to build with alongside the new mud block!

Minecraft is adding a big, super neat new tree type to the game: the mangrove. They’ll have vines that hang down from their leaves like swamp trees do currently, and will also grow large, arching roots that you can walk and swim beneath. What’s particularly cool about mangroves is that they can be planted on land or in water. When they grow, they’ll have a base of twisty root blocks beneath their main mangrove wood trunks.

Yup, that’s right, mangroves will also have their own wood type. Mojang says that when you cut them down and turn them into mangrove planks, you’ll be able to use them for creating mangrove wood colored decorations such as doors, fences, and other wood products just like other wood types.

Mud Blocks
You’ll also notice that the ground in the mangrove swamp biome isn’t made up of dirt blocks. It’s actually covered in mud. You can create new Mud Blocks by dumping a water bottle on dirt. You can also put mud blocks on top of the new dripstone from the Dripstone Cave biome, which will dry out your mud block and turn it into clay. A renewable source of clay—neat! Now you’ll be able to farm your own instead of going diving in every single water source you stumble across.

You can get mud by pouring water on dirt – true both in real life, and when it comes to the new mud block. You can place a mud block on top of dripstone to drain the moisture out and turn it to clay, or you can turn it into mud bricks for a new building material.

Frogs and tadpoles
Don’t hop on out of the mangrove swamps just yet! You’ll want to stop and meet the new frog mobs first. Unlike other mobs which have babies that look like smaller adults, frogs will have actual tadpoles. Like axolotls, they can also be carried around in a bucket. That’ll be handy for transporting your budding little buddies to a new home.

MANGROVE TREES AND MANGROVE SWAMP BIOME
The Wild will feature a major swamp update including mangrove trees. Mangrove trees will grow from propagules which can be planted underwater or on land, and they’ll grow up into big masses of root blocks with vines hanging down around them. You can harvest them for a new wood type. You’ll also find full-on mangrove swamp biomes.

BOATS WITH CHESTS
Perhaps most importantly, we’re also getting boats with chests in them – pretty self-explanatory. The devs suggest the wider rivers introduced with the new world generation features will be a perfect excuse to take your storage-enhanced boats out for a spin.

ALLAY MOB
The allay mob, which won the vote, will be part of 1.19 too. It’s a small blue fairy-like creature that collects items for you and loves to dance.

Minecraft 1.19 new blocks: What new blocks are coming in The Wild Update?

With new biomes come new blocks to use. We’ve touched on these a bit in the sections above, but below we’ll break down all of the new blocks coming in Minecraft 1.19 and explain what they do and how you can use them:

Mud and Mud Brick
As you explore the new Mangrove Swamp biomes, you will come across new mud blocks. Mud might sound and look like dirt, but we’re here to tell you that there’s a big difference. Okay, not a big difference, but they are technically separate blocks.

Sculk, Sculk Catalysts, and Sculk Shriekers
We’ve mentioned Sculk in other sections above, but here’s a brief breakdown if you skipped down to see what new blocks are coming. Sculk is a strange material found throughout the Deep Dark. As you move, vibrations generate and spread through Sculk blocks. If these vibrations ripple through to a Sculk Shrieker, it will emit a ‘shriek’. If there are multiple shrieks in succession, the Warden will emerge nearby and hunt down the players.

Froglight
In a sharp turn away from underground caves and terrifying monsters, Froglight is a new block that forms when Frogs eat Small Magma Cubes. Froglights are colourful blocks that light up the surroundings in a dim light.

Mangrove Wood
Chopping Mangrove trees in Minecraft 1.19 The Wild will grant you a new kind of wood, known as mangrove wood. This has a red hue that will give your creations a warm, cosy feel. This wood can be used for all of the usual blocks, such as doors, stairs, and trap doors, so you can add a little splash of colour to your defensive towers.
