OnePlus started off as a brand that makes affordable flagship smartphones but eventually, the company started making premium devices. Now, it appears like that company is going back to its roots of launching flagship killer smartphones. As per the latest report, the upcoming smartphone from the brand — OnePlus 10T could be a “flagship killer” device from the company, meaning it could be priced much lower than the premium offerings from its competitors.
Is OnePlus 10 coming?
Recent rumors say that OnePlus‘ next flagship phone will be the OnePlus 10T and there is an increasing likelihood that it will be quite affordable.
OnePlus started out as a brand that offered high-end specs at a low price but that has changed over the years, with 2021’s OnePlus 9 Pro becoming the first OnePlus phone to reach the $1,000 mark. At $899, the OnePlus 10 Pro is comparatively affordable, but still quite expensive. If a new rumor is to be believed, the OnePlus 10T could see the company returning to its flagship killer roots.
Per leaks, the OnePlus 10T, which is codenamed Ovaltine, will feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ flat display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a centered punch-hole for the rumored 16MP front camera, a slight step down when compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro’s QHD+ curved screen.
The OnePlus 10T will allegedly be underpinned by Qualcomm’s newest high-end chip, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which should make it faster than the 10 Pro which is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The SoC will be mated with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The handset is rumored to feature a triple camera system with a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP macro unit, but will likely not have the Hasselblad branding.
It will likely have a smaller 4,800mAh cell than the 10 Pro’s 5,000mAh battery but may support faster charging speeds. The handset will reportedly be available in the colors White, Black, and Mint Green.
How much will the OnePlus 10T cost?
A recent report by IT Home suggests that the upcoming OnePlus 10T flagship phone won’t be as expensive as the recent OnePlus phones. It is expected to cost between CNY 3,000 (~ Rs 35,000) and CNY 4,000 (~ Rs 46,000). If this information turns true, it would be good news for many as OnePlus’s original motto was to produce affordable flagship phones. Although, the OnePlus devices’ prices increased exponentially over the years!
The report also reveals that the rumored OnePlus 10T will be launched in the second half of this year and could happen as soon as next month. You should know that this isn’t official information and we need to wait for some for a better idea.
We also have a look at the leaked OnePlus 10T spec sheet. As per the report, the OnePlus 10T will feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, a 360Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR10+, similar to the OnePlus 10 Pro. It is said to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The camera department is expected to include a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. This setup is a toned-down version of the OnePlus 10 Pro’s 50MP+50MP+8MP camera configuration. It could be backed by a 4,800mAh battery (smaller than the 5,000mAh battery of the OnePlus 10 Pro) but with support for 150W fast charging tech, much like the OnePlus 10R.
We can expect a 10 Pro-like design with a few changes. However, we are not sure as to what will be true given that these details are still rumors. To get a more conclusive idea, we need to wait for OnePlus to reveal some details on this.
Is the OnePlus 10 Pro waterproof? Does it have an IP rating?
The OnePlus 10 Pro is a capable smartphone that offers plenty of good features. There’s a lot to like about this particular phone, including its powerful chipset, its big and vibrant QHD+ AMOLED display, its battery, charging speeds, and more. But what about durability? Is the OnePlus 10 Pro waterproof? Does it have an IP rating? These are some of the burning questions that a lot of people ask while making a purchase decision. Well, the answer to that question is… it depends. That’s right, it depends on whether or not you buy the OnePlus 10 Pro from T-Mobile in the US.
This phone has an IP68 rating on T-Mobile, only. The IP68 rating, in case you’re wondering, signifies the durability of the 10 Pro against dust and water. The “6” means the OnePlus 10 Pro is fully dust-tight, while the “8” represents its ability to survive in up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. This is the same kind of protection offered on the Galaxy S22, the iPhone 13, and more, so we’d say it’s the industry norm in the flagship space.
The problem, however, is that the unlocked OnePlus 10T units, or pretty much any units other than the ones sold by T-Mobile, don’t carry the IP68 rating. But since the phone is structurally the same in other regions (except for the fact that the NA OnePlus 10 Pro also has a barometer in the center of the camera module in accordance with U.S. law), the IP68 rating on T-Mobile units actually applies globally, too. OnePlus can’t advertise it as a part of the specs sheet. It’s just a cost-cutting measure to keep the price of the phone low.
