What is the goal of Ark: Survival Evolved?
Ark: Survival Evolved is an action-adventure survival game set in an open world environment with a dynamic day-night cycle and played either from a third-person or first-person perspective. To survive, players must establish a base, with a fire and weapons; additional activities, such as taming and feeding dinosaurs, require more resources. The game’s world, known as the “Ark“, is approximately 48 km2 (19 sq mi) in size:[4] there is approximately 36 km2 (14 sq mi) of land with 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi) of ocean.
There are currently 176 creatures that populate the world of Ark. In the early versions of the game, nearly all creatures were real dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, however, as the storyline progressed, mythical creatures such as the wyvern, griffin, golem, and phoenix were added. As expansions were released, completely original creatures, such as the Karkinos and the Velonasaur also made their way into the game as well as original robotic creatures such as the Enforcer and Scout.
Players can build structures throughout the world. To build a base, players must acquire structure components—such as floors, doors and windows built with the resources littered throughout the world—which are earned as they progress and gain levels, then collect the necessary materials to make them. These components can then be crafted and placed in the world. Players can create any structure, as long as they have the logistics and resources; the structural integrity of the building is compromised when the pillars and foundations are destroyed.
What is the rarest creature in Ark: Survival Evolved?
Titanosaurus (Rarity: 2-3 per map)
Titanosaurus is a huge dinosaur and among the rarest in the game.
The Titanosaurus is the largest dinosaur in ARK and only around two or maybe three of them will spawn on a single map. Once they do, they’re pretty easy to spot due to their size, but once they’re dead, that’s it for the duration of that game.
These giants can be tamed, but be careful, once they are they’ll simply forget to eat and will eventually starve to death. This is why many players choose to leave these majestic beasts in peace or watch them as they explore the map.
Giganotosaurus (Rarity: 1-2 per map)
Giganotosaurus was a real dinosaur, and was bigger than T-Rex.
The Gigantosaurus is the biggest and most powerful theropod in the game. What makes it even more impressive is the creature is based on a real dinosaur from the Cretaceous period. The beast is also heavily featured in the latest Jurassic World movie.
One will typically spawn at some point during your playthrough, although some lucky (or unlucky) players have reported seeing two. They are highly aggressive and will attack everything they encounter – including you. However, they can be tamed and used to support your survival journey.
Unicorn (Rarity: 1 per map)
The Unicorn is a highly elusive mythical creature.
As the Unicorn doesn’t have the size of some of the other creatures on this list, it’s often overlooked by ARK players. However, those lucky enough to spot one can tame it to create the best steed in the game.
You’ll need to catch it first though, as Unicorns are incredibly skittish. They’re not hostile, but be careful, there’s only ever one per map, so they’re an incredibly rare creature in ARK Survival Evolved.
ARK: Survival Evolved Gameplay
The gameplay is really just a fantastical episode of Naked and Afraid that you can direct on your computer. You’re a stranded character that ARK’s website description notes specifically to be “naked, freezing & starving,” and you need to do all the usual survival stuff to stay alive: find and kill dinosaurs with a bow and arrow, use your innate stonemason skills to circumvent the housing market and build shelter, etc. As for food, you can try your hand at being a foraging vegetarian or go full cannibal and learn to harvest human meat. Picky eaters are safe here.
If you would like to escape the particularly picky eaters interested in your tasty flesh, you can currently pick up all of ARK: Survival Evolved expansion maps also for free. Happy hunting.
