Jenny Sarah Slate (born March 25, 1982) is an American actress, comedian, and author. Born and raised in Milton, Massachusetts, Slate was educated at Milton Academy and studied literature at Columbia University, where she became involved in the improv and comedy scene.
Is Jenny Slate in a relationship?
Jenny Slate revealed she married her fiancé, Ben Shattuck, in their living room on New Year’s Eve. In a new interview with Marie Claire, the “Marcel the Shell” star shared that she wed Shattuck in their Massachusetts living room after three previous attempts at tying the knot were thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We were planning on a [wedding] that ended up being almost 200 people, and then now, it’s just our parents and siblings,” she explained. “We each invited six friends… I actually like it. I like it better. I didn’t realize how the large thing was making me feel uncomfortable, a little bit. Just a little.”
Slate, 39, and the 28-year-old author — who have been dating since 2019 — share 1-year-old daughter Ida Lupine. According to Slate, the experience of motherhood has far exceeded her expectations.
“I only realized this after I had the baby, but I thought being a mother would be like a replica of my own mother’s experience with motherhood,” Slate, who is one of three children, shared. “At least, how I perceived it: in which she really, really, really loves us so much, and also, she often seemed really stressed out, and at loose ends, and at her wits’ end, and exhausted, and splattered in clay.
“Instead, I feel like it’s been the opposite of that for me. Not at all that it’s not difficult and challenging to have a newborn baby. There are so many profound challenges, but I’ve never been happier in my life. I feel like I can finally be what I want to be.”
Why did Chris Evans and Jenny Slate break up?
Chris Evans and Jenny Slate first met at a “chemistry read” for Gifted in September 2015 and were so compatible, they were cast in the lead roles, playing romantic interests. Their connection was instant and not reserved to the big screen. As Slate told Variety, “I remember him saying to me, ‘You’re going to be one of my closest friends.’ I was just like, ‘Man, I f***ing hope this isn’t a lie, because I’m going to be devastated if this guy isn’t my friend.’”
Evans was true to his word, although Slate was reluctant at first. When the actor began organizing weekend game nights for the Gifted cast and crew, she admitted to Vulture that she found it “annoying.” Then she realized how deceiving first impressions and preconceived notions can be.
Chris recalled how surprised Slate was when she finally saw the real him, telling Men’s Journal, “She was just like, ‘Man, you’re not like what I thought you were going to be. I can speak fluent bro, but I don’t consider myself one,” he elaborated.
What’s more, he hasn’t let fame change him. So much so that he spends most of his time away from Hollywood in his native Massachusetts, close to family and friends. “I was never much of a ‘I can’t wait to leave this town’ kind of kid,” Evans admitted. “This is home to me. I have no desire to lay down roots somewhere else.”
Despite once joking that “it’s kind of like I got my dream 7th grade boyfriend,” Slate’s dream man wasn’t actually the right man. The pair split in February 2017 after less than a year of dating “due to conflicting schedules.” It wasn’t just work (and differing lifestyles) that got in the way, however — their timing was also off.
How long did Chris Evans date Jenny Slate?
Chris and Lily were spotted spending time together in summer 2020, but neither of them commented on the relationship. In fact, Lily refused to confirm whether or not they’d even dated during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, which noted she “won’t discuss whether or not she is dating the Captain America star Chris Evans.”
These two were everyone’s favorite couple for several moments there, but sadly they didn’t last. Chris and Jenny met on the set of their movie Gifted in 2016, and Jenny told Entertainment Tonight, “It’s kind of like I got my dream seventh grade boyfriend. We didn’t know each other growing up, but we grew up about a half hour away from each other. We’ve been friends for a while.” They ended up breaking up in February 2017 but were seen together in October of that year.
Sadly, they ended up splitting again, with Jenny explaining in a Vulture interview, “Chris is a very, very famous person. For him to go to a restaurant is totally different than for me to go. I sit in my window and I say hi to people on the street. I have more freedom because I’m not Captain America. I’m mostly a cartoon.” She added, “This is what I needed to do to feel normal. To be alone.”
Are Chris Evans and Jenny Slate still friends?
Now, it’s 2020, and Slate is engaged to her writer and art curator boyfriend, Ben Shattuck, and it’s natural for fans to be curious how Evans feels about Slate’s future nuptials.
According to a new Us Weekly report, Evans wishes nothing but the best for Slate. “Chris feels neutral towards Jenny Slate and holds no bad feelings towards her,” the insider said in a Jan. 7 exclusive. “[He] is happy for her.” Evans’ team did not respond to Elite Daily’s request for comment on the report.
As for Evans’s dating life, he is reportedly single and has already started to mingle. Us Weekly’s source says the actor is “dating different women and is having fun,” adding Evans is “not exclusive with anyone.” Apparently, he’s aiming to “be more private with his love life” following his public relationship with Slate. In a March 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Evans opened up about his dating life.
“I’m the one who fears being enveloped. I was always a really autonomous guy my whole life. Camping by myself is one of my favorite things,” he said, before revealing what he needs for a healthy relationship. “I really like to be with someone who also has their own thing to do as well, you know? If I’m with someone who just kind of adopts my life, that can feel a bit suffocating.”
And as for Jenny Slate, even after their first breakup in 2017, she told Vulture she didn’t mind talking about him because “he’s a lovely person.” Considering Evans and Slate’s supportive feelings toward one another, it seems the former couple is on good terms in 2020.
