Porsche and Audi in Formula 1 2026

Porsche and Audi are inching closer to confirming Formula 1 entries from 2026, although it seems any commitment will come with a twist.

There is a surprise switch from the Volkswagen Group’s original desire to have a cost-effective route into F1 with both Porsche and Audi benefitting from an alliance with Red Bull and its fledgling engine division.
The VW Group HAS now vaguely confirmed plans for two potential entries. Official details are scarce, but Audi’s apparent preference is rather different to what was originally envisaged.

Porsche And Audi To Power Formula 1 Cars From 2026: Official

VW Group CEO Herbert Diess confirmed the Group’s premium brands will enter F1.

Confirming rumors about Porsche and Audi joining Formula 1 in some capacity, Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess revealed the two luxury brands will take part in the greatest racing series. The important disclosure was made during a livestream called “Dialog with Diess” held in German on the official VW Group page on YouTube.

The head honcho has ruled out using the VW name in F1, saying it “doesn’t fit and the brand will not participate.” Instead, Porsche and Audi will enter the competition separately by using their own names. Diess said the rule changes planned for 2026 are the perfect opportunity to enter the competition. Our sister site Motorsport.com quotes Diess saying this was the “last chance” for a decade to make such an important decision.
