Four people have been killed in a mass shooting in the small city of Hampton, Georgia, and the suspect is still at large, according to county officials. The shooting occurred on Saturday morning in the Dogwood Lakes subdivision, an area that features lake-front homes and a nearby Baptist church.
The first call about the shooting came in around 10:45 a.m. ET, according to Melissa Robinson, a spokesperson for Henry County. Authorities are investigating the active shooter situation, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the shooting.
The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Andre Longmore of Hampton. Police have obtained four warrants for Longmore, who they consider armed and dangerous, and are offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to his capture. Longmore was last seen driving a black 2017 GMC Acadia with a tag number DHF756.
Police have not identified the victims except to say they are three men and one woman and that they are all adults. A motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
At a news conference on Saturday afternoon, Hampton Mayor Ann Tarpley expressed condolences to the families of the victims and vowed that the person responsible would be held accountable and “brought to justice.” She also urged the public to lift up the families and the victims in their thoughts and prayers and to give them the privacy they may need to overcome this horrific tragedy.
In the meantime, officials are advising the public to avoid the area near the incident. The Henry County Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Homeland Security, and the Henry County Crime Scene Unit are all assisting Hampton police with this situation.
Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett also had a message for the suspect: “Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in any hole that you may be residing in and bring you to custody. Period.”
