Bleach made its debut well over a decade ago on screen, and the anime certainly earned its place as one of anime’s biggest shows.
Bleach Is Back and The Internet Is All Emotional About Its Return
Tite Kubo’s series was a bonafide hit in the United States, and of course, fans were gutted when the anime ended before its time. However, today marks Ichigo Kurosaki’s big return as Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is on the cusp of its premiere. And as you can imagine, fans are geeking out.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is focusing on the manga’s final act.
The saga, which never made it to television, is one of the most explosive in Kubo’s catalog. From all-out battles to surprising deaths and bloodline reveals, this final act left fans reeling when the manga was working through its twists. And now, anime fans will get to experience Bleach’s biggest shockers starting today.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – How to watch the sequel series
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is finally here! After more than 10 years of waiting, it looks like Ichigo, Rukia and the entire Soul Society are finally getting some closure.
Bleach season 16 aired all the way back in 2012, and anime viewers have spent the subsequent decade wondering whether the final arcs of Tite Kubo’s legendary manga would ever be adapted for the small screen.
Bleach was, at the time, one of the most popular and successful anime exports – notable as one of the ‘Big 3’ in the early 2000s alongside One Piece and Naruto.
And now, with peers like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen, it definitely seems like the right time for the Shinigami to return and show us how demon hunting’s really done.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War episode one will be available on Disney+ in the UK on October 10, from 4:30 pm. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly every Monday on the platform. Viewers in the USA can watch the sequel series on Hulu.
Production company VizMedia has announced that this final part of the Bleach story will be released in four ‘cours’ of 13 episodes, with breaks in between each cour.
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 1 Review: Return Of The King
What is there to be said about Bleach that hasn’t been said before? It is one of the most popular anime in the west of Japan of all time and is considered a part of the Big Three, a trio of anime widely recognised as having been a part of popularising the medium of anime. The show is back after a hiatus of nine years, as its first run ended in 2013. The newest season of the show is being developed by Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the original series, as well as other giants such as Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul.
Made by Pierrot, the same studio that animated the series’ original run from 2004 to 2012, the new show doesn’t miss a single beat when picking back up. The first episode covers roughly the first five chapters of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, and matches them pretty closely.
And from the first frames of the new show, it’s clear those new to Bleach won’t find a whole lot to go by, and longtime fans may find themselves catching up as well. It appears Pierrot is just confidently hell-bent on picking up and finishing the series as if there was no break — and it immediately pulls you back into the world. We see a deep dark lab in the Seireitei in chaos, with pretty much no explanation of what’s happening.
Characters casually mention series-specific terms like Gigai, Bankai, and Soul Reaper. Moments, like the fact that military-clad fighter Asguiaro Ebern is a Quincy, will have more oomph for those who know the characters and their significance in the larger world.
