Sifu is an action beat ’em up video game developed and published by French studio Sloclap. Set in modern-day China, players control the child of a martial arts school’s sifu (master) who seeks revenge on those responsible for his father’s death. Every time the protagonist dies, they are resurrected by a magical talisman and age up, gaining access to more powerful attacks but reducing their health. When the player character becomes too old, they can die permanently, in which case players must restart the level from the beginning and from the same age as their initial attempt.
Is Sifu a PS5 exclusive?
Despite being a game that is exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation consoles, Sifu could one day make the jump over to Microsoft’s Xbox machines.
When asked if the game would be coming to Xbox platforms on reddit, the developers responded by confirming that Sifu is a “timed exclusive”.
That means that while the game is exclusive to PlayStation, that exclusivity only applies for a set agreed time, after which the game is free to be released onto other platforms.
Whether this will actually happen remains to be seen, but given the game’s early success, it would make sense to bring Sifu to more players in the future.
How many levels does Sifu have?
In these styles of games, we see players have to advance through levels and these levels are not easy at all. At the start, we are treated to a gruesome prologue that reveals your character will go on a huge quest for revenge.
For those wondering, Sifu has five main levels for you to get through. You may think this is not a lot at all but it actually is as each area has numerous enemies, including an enemy of the group responsible for your father’s death.
This makes these levels quite long, and if you are playing on a very hard difficulty, it will be extremely hard to complete.
What should also be known about this game is your need to make sure you perfect it in order to actually complete it and this is another reason why five levels is the perfect amount in Sifu.
The reasoning behind us saying that the game has to be perfected is due to the fact that the proper ending of the game can only be achieved if you manage to get 100% when you have completed it.
We can tell that Sifu is worth giving a go due to the fact that so many are currently playing the game. With battle royales being quite mainstream at the moment, it is nice to have a game so different performing so well.
If you do give the game a go, be sure to tell us what you think and whether you believe five levels is enough or if they should have had more levels.
What is the Sifu gameplay like?
Combat is the name of the game here, and the game is inspired by Pak Mei kung fu and includes over 150 unique attacks.
These attacks can all be strung together into impressive combos, and the game allows players to take advantage of the environment to improvise new attacks and alter their strategy when facing stronger opponents.
Of course, pacifists will be glad to hear that on occasion, the player may be presented with dialogue options which can enable them to avoid combat altogether depending on their choice of words.
A word of warning to newcomers: the game’s developers have said Sifu was designed to be difficult, as they felt players would not gain a feeling of mastery if the experience was too easy
How to Play Sifu Early
Currently, the only way to play the game early on PS4/PS5 and PC is to pre-order the Deluxe Edition of the game. It does cost a few extra bucks, but it might be worth it for players that have been really looking forward to the challenging yet satisfying combat that Sifu offers. Unfortunately, some players that pre-ordered on the PSN Store could not download the early access version of the game. But Sloclap put out a tweet on Sunday stating that PlayStation has fixed the issue for most players. Sloclap also promises an “exclusive gift” coming to those with the Deluxe Edition of the game.
How to Fix Sifu Early Access Issue
If players have purchased the Deluxe Edition for the game and still cannot access it, there are some troubleshooting tips that might help out:
Restart the console and then launch Sifu from the library
Go to settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses
For those still experiencing issues, the best thing to do now is to just wait until the game’s official launch on February 8th, 2022. It’s likely that all versions of the game will launch properly across PlayStation Network and the Epic Games Store, whether gamers have the Deluxe Edition or not.
Sifu will take most gamers around 10 hours to see the game from start to finish, but depending on the skill level of the player, that time can increase or decrease. Sifu is not an easy game, so players should be prepared to face some challengers once they get access.
