The latest Apex Legends Arenas update hasn’t gone as smoothly as many would have imagined, as players are still being placed in Artillery despite its removal and not in Thermal Station.
What is Artillery in Apex Legends
Located in the far North of Kings Canyon, Artillery is a prime location that is often filled to the brim with high tiered loot – especially inside the two large bunker style buildings.
With over six large buildings in the area and zip-lines that connect the three largest, there are plenty of opportunities to escape the area quickly when in danger.
In our experience, we often encounter at least one other team when landing in this area. To help ensure that you always get first loot, try landing in the center, as you will find four Supply Crates all lined in a row. If enemies are nearby, make your way South to the bunker style buildings for some quick loot.
To the West, you will also find a large tunnel that is often packed with supply crates and plenty of random ground loot. If you find that another team in the area has a clear looting advantage, try leading your team to this tunnel to avoid any early gunfights.
That’s not all though, as you will also find over 17 supply crates in the field just South of Artillery.
NEW Arena Map Thermal Station REPLACING Artillery! Apex Legends Season 9
APEX LEGENDSApex Legends Arenas update replaces Artillery for Thermal Station
Apex Legends developers, Respawn, have pushed out a small update regarding Arenas, which includes a new map entering the rotation.
Apex Legends’ new 3v3 Arenas mode is getting a slight update today, replacing Artillery with World’s Edge POI Thermal Station.
Apex Legends 3v3 Arenas mode has only been out for two weeks, and players have already found the best Legends, weapons, and strategies.
It seems Respawn Entertainment has seen the success Arenas has been having and want to keep it fresh by replacing one of the maps with a familiar World’s Edge POI.
Respawn let players know over on Twitter that they had just released an update that change two things:
Players who have been enjoying Arenas even more so than the battle royale will be happy to know that they now won’t be missing out on the daily Treasure packs, as players can now find them in the loot bins on Arenas.
Although this is a fairly small change, it shows that Respawn is dedicated to making Arenas a part of Apex legends as the original battle mode.
The more interesting part of the update is the introduction of World’s Edge POI Thermal Station into the Arenas map rotation. Thermal Station will be replacing Artillery, and it seems they will also be updating the map rotation every two weeks.
ARTILLERY BATTERY
Artillery Battery’s design lends itself to some truly dull gameplay. A typical game on Artillery Battery involves both teams laying claim to the hanger on their side of the map. What commences next is a long, drawn-out poke battle between the two teams. Take a few poke shots, heal back up. Take a few more shots, heal again. Matches on Artillery Battery become a war of attrition. Wear the enemy down through sustained long-range attacks.
Some players may not mind this style of play, but for us, it’s boring. Artillery Battery leaves no room to play aggressively. The enemy team can just post up on high ground and slaughter anyone that dares approach them. The lack of cover around the map’s centre further encourages a campy playstyle.
Artillery Battery’s aesthetic does it no favours either. The map is just plain ugly.
Best Legends For Artillery
As mentioned previously, the best characters for the Arena mode vary from battle royale. With that said, here are some quick recommendations on the best characters for the Artillery map.
Lifeline – Great for extra shield cells from loot bins, reviving without being vulnerable, and healing teammates to avoid spending materials.
Rampart – Several great opportunities to create cover for teammates to take advantage of. You can set up walls for players sniping up high or cover near the bottom half of Artillery.
Mirage – Easily one of the better ultimate abilities in the Arena mode for throwing off enemies.
Pathfinder – Your tactical comes in handy with how vertical the Artillery map is. And if you’re good at grappling, you can fling yourself across the map too.
Loba – Her ultimate can reach both loot bins from the spawn for early meds. Plus, this prevents enemies from getting those juicy meds instead.
Best Weapons For Artillery
Try to take advantage of long-range weapons unless you plan on rushing enemies with quicker characters. The first round can be the toughest on Artillery because you likely won’t have a good weapon yet.
- Volt – A great first-round weapon.
- EVA-8 Auto – A cheap shotgun at 250 compared to the others being double the cost.
- Longbow – A good cheap sniper rifle that works well so long as you’re not getting pushed consistently.
- Spitfire – A slightly more expensive choice past the first round.
- R-301 – A common Apex Legends favorite, despite it being a little expensive at 600 materials.
- Bocek – The season 9 bow is still a strong weapon if you can aim it well. However, it’s also expensive at 600 materials.

Another random quirk of the Apex Legend map is Hot Zones. At the start of every match, you’ll notice that one town has a blue ring around it. That means that it has high-tier loot and the chance of a fully kitted-out weapon drop.
In a shocking revelation, loot ticks are no longer exclusive to Kings Canyon in Apex Legends—they’re now found in real life, too. An Apex fan and YouTuber by the name of The3DPrintSpace has painstakingly recreated the walking loot boxes with stunning accuracy.
The white icon is the ship itself, which you can land on at the beginning of the game. The blue icon is where the ship is headed and will eventually land. Blue Filled in Circle: This is a Hot Zone and it will appear at the start of the game.
