Top 10 Best Superhero Games for PS4 | PlayStation 4
From bankruptcy in the mid-1990s to global brand powerhouse, Marvel’s journey to the top of the intellectual property food chain has been a saga for the ages. Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s dominance of pop culture, the house of ideas’ greatest heroes are once again household names, as well as the perfect material for video game adaptations. Marvel’s return to video game superstardom hasn’t been entirely smooth, but these have been road bumps on an otherwise exciting journey into mystery.
With the recent release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and several games such as Wolverine, and Midnight Suns on the horizon, here’s a look at the best Marvel games that you can play right now, listed in no particular order.
1. Spider-Man
Spider-Man is a game that became quite popular among gamers for its narrative, combat, abilities of the characters, and a lot more. It received a lot of positive responses, and it is still loved by many in 2022. Well, it was released on September 7, 2018, on PS4, and just after two years, it was released on PS5 too.
2. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
Next on the list of best marvel games for ps4 is Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. There’s something about this game. It was released on December 3, 2016, but people still love to play it even if there are other amazing games available for PS4. So, it’s an arcade-style fighting game that is available in both multiplayer and single-player modes.
3. Marvel’s Avengers
Marvel’s Avengers is a 2020 game. Crystal Dynamics was the developer, and Square Enix was the publisher of the game. It is an action-adventure role-playing game, and we can say it is beat ’em up. It is available in both multiplayer and single-player modes. Therefore, you can call your friends and make a superhero team of your own.
4. LEGO Super Heroes
It’s testament to the enjoyability of LEGO Super Heroes that, despite coming out in 2013, it remains popular and addictive. LEGO games have a successful formula, combining fun aesthetics with recognizable-yet-innovative storylines.
5. Deadpool
This hilarious title, released in 2015 just prior to the Deadpool movie, went under the radar for many. And that’s a huge shame because, as it’s written by comic scribe Daniel Way, it perfectly captures the tone of the character. Deadpool hires Nolan North as his voice.
Talk about a game with a great start but fails to hit the landing. Deadpool is exceedingly comical as it plays around with the fourth wall breaking at the beginning. You’re interacting with Deadpool’s environment with plenty of fun crude jokes throughout, and then once you’re in the game, it becomes as bland as toast without butter. Repetitive combat, uninspired level design, and dull environments make this once comedic trip a bore. We only rate this higher as Nolan North fits the role perfectly. We’d love to see another crack at this by another development team like Insomniac Games.
6. Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series
This episodic game is the most reminiscent of comic books, coming in issue-like instalments with cliffhangers. Each episode spotlights a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy as they steal the Eternity Forge, an immensely powerful cosmic artefact, from Thanos—then must recover it from Hala the Accuser (of the Kree).
7. Iron Man VR
Ever wanted to be Iron Man? To fly around, save people, and be a hero to millions? Taking away the suit, do you have desires to be a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist? Sorry, but that’s not going to happen. Don’t expect HD graphics, but it’s nonetheless an immersive and thrilling experience.
8. Marvel v Capcom: Infinite
Infinite revives the iconic fighting franchise, Marvel v Capcom. X-Men vs. Street Fighter launched the series in 1996 and six further titles were released, although Marvel vs. Capcom Origins seemed like the last in 2012. Then Infinite came in 2017, once more pitching heroes and villains from the two brands against each other.
This game is what happens when a studio falls out of touch with its audience. The overall game design is sound, but the general consensus is that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is a dud. The overall art style is a mess with strange characterizations of our favorite heroes mixed in with poorly implemented animations. The models of Captain America and Chun-Li in particular upset fans with their facial animations. Additionally, the story is filled with bad jokes, terrible fan service lines, and awkward moments that likely reflected the communication between Marvel Games and Capcom at the time.
9. LEGO Avengers
LEGO Super Heroes might have had a sequel, but this is its first spiritual successor. Astonishingly, LEGO Avengers includes over 200 playable characters—a great mix of well- and lesser-known heroes and villains. More so than LEGO Super Heroes, LEGO Avengers is inspired by the MCU, meaning it’s very accessible.
10. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Insomniac set a high bar for itself with its first Spider-Man game, and tasked with following up on that success with a PS5 launch game in late 2020, the studio had its work cut out for it. Miles Morales didn’t take many risks in terms of gameplay, but the change in heroes did shake things up, as Miles’ approach to New York crime-fighting was an electrically charged celebration of power and growth.
Armed with an arsenal of shocking abilities, juggling his own personal problems, and surviving the most perilous of odds helped make the debut of Miles in the leading role a memorable one. It also made for one of the best PS5 launch games. While Miles Morales is a shorter experience than the original Marvel’s Spider-Man (think Uncharted: Lost Legacy compared to Uncharted 4), it is a thrilling adventure from start to finish.
PS5 digital version included at no additional cost with PS4 version. Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PS4 and PS5.
Two full decades after its release, Marvel Ultimate Alliance stands tall as the best way to experience a true Avengers video game experience.
