Kirby and the Forgotten Land Announcement Trailer Nintendo Switch

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a 2022 platform video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the thirteenth mainline installment in the Kirby series, as well as the first game in the series in full 3D, excluding spin-offs. The player controls Kirby in an adventure through the titular forgotten land called the New World to rescue Waddle Dees kidnapped by the ferocious Beast Pack. To complete each stage to save the Waddle Dees, Kirby can use a wide range of copy abilities to help battle enemies and progress. The game was developed for the 30th anniversary of the Kirby series. The game was well-received by critics with some calling it one of the best games in the series. It sold 2.1 million units in two weeks.

How long does it take to beat Kirby and the Forgotten Land?

Kirby and the Forgotten Land spans seven worlds divided into single or multiple stages, including boss battles. Depending on the preferred difficulty, players can easily clear a stage in as little as ten minutes. To unlock the respective boss fights, though, a certain number of rescued Waddle Dees is required. While focusing on the mainline missions and freeing half of the Waddle Dee population per area will allow the players to beat the campaign in record time, it might lessen the overall experience.

A leisurely pace will yield a playtime of approximately 10 1/2 hours, whereas a rushed approach can help the players reach the end credits in approximately 7 hours. On the other hand, the average time to beat the main campaign rests at around 9 hours. If the players would like to see more of Kirby’s adventures, they should consider putting some time aside to explore extras.

Whether the players wish to upgrade Kirby’s Copy abilities or expand the selection of facilities in Waddle Dee Town, they are looking at an average playtime of about 11 hours. Fast-tracking some of the available bonus content is also plausible, and in such an instance, it will take around 9 hour to beat the campaign. Conversely, opting to discover the hidden wonders of The Forgotten Land at one’s convenience will have the credits rolling in approximately 13 hours.

There’s also an optional New Game Plus mode that’ll unlock after you beat the campaign which will give you even more to do in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. For die-hard completionists, the game can potentially take up to 12 hours to 100% on the hardest difficulty setting, Wild Mode. However, for most people, you can expect to spend anywhere between 8 and 10 hours in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

What is the story of Kirby and the Forgotten Land?

Kirby and the Forgotten Land begins with the titular pink hero being pulled into a mysterious dimensional rift alongside his Dream Land pals. Kirby awakens on a beach and begins to explore the surrounding area. The island Kirby lands on is called the Forgotten Land and seems to be abandoned.

Kirby soon learns that the island is inhabited by a gang of animals named the Beast Pack, who have started kidnapping Waddle Dees. With the help of a little blue creature named Elfilin, Kirby begins to rescue the Waddle Dees and defeat the Beast Pack.

Kirby eventually runs into his old enemy King Dedede, who appears to have been possessed by something. King Dedede takes Elfilin and escapes the arena, leading Kirby to give chase. Kirby finds King Dedede at the base of the Redgar volcano, now wearing a mask that seems to make him more erratic.

Kirby smashes the mask and King Dedede returns to his usual self, holding off the Beast Pack as Kirby and Elfilin make their escape up the volcano’s elevator. At the top, Kirby discovers a secret laboratory where Leongar, the King of the Beast Pack, is waiting. Leongar also appears to be possessed, boasting glowing purple eyes.

Upon defeating Leongar, a glass case behind the boss shatters, revealing a blue spore-like creature. Named Fecto Forgo, this creature was an alien that attempted to invade the Forgotten Land centuries prior when it was still a bustling society. The alien was captured and its dimensional rift abilities were researched. The Forgotten Land’s inhabitants then used this ability to leave this world, perhaps heading to Dream World. In the process, this alien was split into two parts: Elfilin and Fecto Forgo.

How To Find The Side Alley in Kirby and the Forgotten Land

The Northeast Frost Street level begins with Kirby arriving via Warpstar on a snow-covered street that runs through a quaint and quiet town with stone buildings and wrought iron gates. The secret side alley is located in this first main section. So, if you reach the section where you begin climbing the stairs, you’ve gone a bit too far.

Head down the street and defeat or evade the enemies as you go. Eventually, you will pass the third wrought iron fence. This fence should be located right before the stairs leading up to the next area. It’s also next to the mound of snow where the Corori (penguin enemy in a winter cap) is standing and pushing dangerous snowballs.

Pass by or defeat these enemies until you are on the far side of the fence. Then, hugging the fence, walk toward the wall, past the tree, and you will find a gap in the wall. Once you hit the gap, continue through and the camera will shift behind Kirby to reveal an area with a balcony overlooking the rest of the town. You should see an Awoofy (fox enemy) sleeping on a bench in this hidden area.

More importantly, you should see a deceptively large pile of coins to claim which will only actually add 50 to your total. That’s not a ton of money, but you can’t put a price tag on the satisfaction you get from having successfully hunted down one of the secret objectives for Northeast Frost Street.

HOW MANY WORLDS ARE IN KIRBY AND THE FORGOTTEN LAND?

Here are the names of those worlds for those who are curious. Kirby’s latest adventure is full of varied environments to explore.

  • Natural Plains

Kirby doesn’t have to face this new and dangerous land all by himself. Kirby and the Forgotten Land offers a full co-op mode where a second player can control Bandana Waddle Dee. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer who could blow through this title without ever taking a hit or you’re brand new to gaming, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is always more fun when you have a friend to share the experience with.
