The Spring Cleaning 2022 update for Dota 2 is here to patch a passel of bugs and implement a handful of new quality-of-life improvements. Check out some of the larger changes — like improvements to Aghanim’s tooltips, Muting Controls, Shop Searches, and Demo Hero mode — and then dig into the longer list of fixes and gameplay adjustments in a comprehensive breakdown below.
Valve releases ‘Spring Cleaning’ update for Dota 2
Every spring, Valve rolls out a cleaning update, fixing various bugs while adding quality of life features to Dota 2. The developer just pushed the latest Spring Cleaning update to the live servers, and it’s a packed one.
With the Aghanim’s Shard arrival, Dota 2 heroes received various new abilities and buffs. While the new changes were impactful enough to change the metagame, the tooltips could get confusing at times, meaning players wouldn’t be able to picture the full benefits of an upgrade without purchasing the item.
The latest Spring Cleaning update comes with tooltip improvements. More thorough explanations and information should make it easier for players to decide on their upgrades.
In recent months, Valve also changed the way players could mute others in the game. The new system required players to interact with a small pop-up and increased the number of clicks needed to mute someone in Dota 2. The change wasn’t well-received by most players and the Spring Cleaning update brings back the old system, with a few improvements.
Remembering the name of all the items in Dota 2 has always been a challenging task, and it only gets harder with new items getting added to the game. The Spring cleaning update adds more keywords to the shop search, allowing players to find the item they’re looking for by typing their buffs.
The Demo mode was also improved with quality of life updates to make it easier for players to test out strategies. The remaining changes include expanded item tooltips, ability damage colors to identify Pure, Magical, and Physical damage, and sortable post-game details to help players better analyze matches.
Dota 2: Check Out the Changes in the Spring Cleaning Update
Demo Mode
The demo mode is a feature where players can test strategies or even come up with their own. It’s been reworked to offer a bunch of new functionalities. These include:
The northern section of the Demo Map has been expanded to provide a more flat area for testing.
Added controls to easily spawn Allied heroes, in addition to enemies.
Added control to reset a hero back to Level 1.
Added control to remove a hero once you’re done testing.
Buttons for leveling, adding Scepter, adding Shard, and toggling invulnerability now apply to all currently selected heroes.
When toggling creeps off, all existing lane creeps will be destroyed.
Added a button to spawn a single creep wave from each side.
Added buttons to spawn the 6 major runes.
Muting Players
Games with PvP often have their players experience the wrong kind of emotions, especially in the heat of battle. When such behavior becomes disruptive, it’s important to have a way to quickly and easily mute players. In addition, there should also be a way to report them without disrupting the game further.
With this new update, players can now mute voice, mute text, and report another player with a single click of a button. There are cases where the behavior of a player may not be disruptive, but another player may still not want to communicate with them. In this case, there’s a right-click option to mute text and voice independently.
This isn’t the last change we’ll probably see for this feature as it looks like Valve is continuously looking into how they handle communication reports.
Changes to Aghanim’s
In Dota 2, there’s no question that the inner workings of Aghanim’s mind are beyond the comprehension of mortals. The good news is that the tooltips for Aghanim’s Scepter and Shard have been upgraded to show more details on what happens when these items are equipped. The presentation of some upgrades has been customized to make sure that the information is simpler and easier to understand.
Muting Improvements in Dota 2
Dota players are a boisterous bunch, and sometimes the wrong kind of emotions dominate amidst the heat of competition. In cases where that behavior becomes disruptive, it’s important to have a quick and easy means to mute players and report them for additional scrutiny without further disrupting your game.
To that end, a single click will now mute voice, mute text, and report a player. You can also right-click to mute text and voice independently for cases where a player’s behavior may not be disruptive but their communications are still unwanted. For an easy high-level control, you can also use the new Team Mute buttons to block out an entire team’s communications with a click.
We’re also taking this opportunity to re-evaluate how we handle communication reports. Our goals are to make it quick and easy to mute disruptive players while also getting a clear indication of which players we might need to take stronger action on.
Shop Search in Spring cleaning Dota 2
Spending gold should be easy, fun, and most of all, effective. So to help make your sprees feel a little less “meep merp” and a lot more “last hit,” the Item Shop Search has been expanded with improved support for keywords — including a display that highlights searched-for attributes. Just search for “Armor”, “Strength”, “Range”, etc to highlight the stats you’re interested in. Picking the perfect item for the perfect plan has never been easier. All you need now is the gold.
Spring cleaning Dota 2 means dedicating whole section to Rubick
Tons of gameplay bugs were fixed, including annoying little things like adjusting Boots of Travel’s propensity to target creeps instead of towers, Lifestealer’s Consume no longer changing hotkey whenever he enters a different creep, and the Ogre Bruiser finally getting a wind-up and sound for his three-second stun.
But it was Rubick, perhaps Dota 2’s buggiest hero due to his Spell Steal ability, who was arguably the biggest beneficiary of the spring cleaning.
Several spells with dual slots like Elder Titan’s Astral Spirit and Puck’s Illusory Orb would previously occupy both Aghanim Scepter-upgraded Rubick’s spell slots. Now, these have been fixed to give a Rubick even more flexibility. Many skills interactions with Aghanim’s Shard will now work properly when Rubick steals the spell as well.

Show activity on this post. When you’re last hitting in Dota2, a lot of the damage from creeps is being dealt by the ranged creep. Notice which enemy creep it’s attacking and often simply just time your projectile to hit immediately before or immediately after the ranged creep’s attack to ensure the last hit.
A neutral item can be stashed by either dropping it within the fountain area, or by teleporting it to the stash by right-clicking it. Unlike with the regular stash, neutral items can be moved to their dedicated stash from anywhere on the map.
Objectively, you should start spring cleaning when you can clear out a solid day or two in your schedule to devote to the task. For many, this may be the weekend. Keep the weekend or your day clear and dedicate it to giving your home the love and care it deserves so it can love and care for you.
