God of War is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It was released in April 2018 for the PlayStation 4, with a Microsoft Windows version released in January 2022. The game is the eighth installment in theseries, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010’s.

Who is the God of war?

Ares was the original Olympian, and the son of Zeus and Hera and the main antagonist of the game, as well as the perpetrator behind the events of Ascension, meaning he was also responsible for setting the events of the series into motion by tricking Kratos into killing his family and turning him into the Ghost of Sparta, which eventually fulfilling the prophecy of the Marked Warrior who would destroy Olympus and end the reign of the Gods. Kratos is a fictional character and protagonist of Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok, based on Greek mythology and, later, Norse mythology. He first appeared in the 2005 video game God of War, which led to the development of seven additional games featuring the character as the protagonist; God of War Ragnarök is currently in development for a 2022 release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. He later avenges the deaths of his family and becomes the God of War after killing Ares. Kratos is eventually revealed to be a demigod and the son of Zeus, who later betrays him. Kratos embarks on several adventures in attempts to avert disaster or to change his fate. He is usually portrayed as being oblivious to all else and is stoic, bloodthirsty, and arrogant in nature. He often engages in morally ambiguous activities and performs acts of extreme violence. Vengeance is a central theme of the Greek era, and installments focus on Kratos’ origins and his relationships with his family and the Olympian gods. In the Norse era of the series, Kratos finds himself controlling his rage and learning how to truly be a father and mentor to his son, Atreus.

Can you play God of War on PC?

Nearly four years after its initial release, God of War has finally made its way to PC. If you haven’t yet checked out Sony Santa Monica’s lengthy tale of Mad Dad Kratos and Boy, the PC version is the one you should grab. It doesn’t bring any new content to the table, but it does offer graphical options that make an already beautiful game look even better.

The PC version of the game supports 4k resolution and unlocked framerates, DLSS and ultrawide displays, as well as some more granular options for tweaking the look of the game, like turning up the resolution of textures or enhancing the appearance of shadows. Probably the most notable improvement is the unlocked framerate, which makes for some buttery smooth moments of Kratos slamming the Leviathan Axe into draugr and trolls. God of War ran at 30fps on PlayStation 4, so if this is your first time playing or revisiting the game since then (without, say, the upgrade to its PlayStation 5 version), the higher framerate is a nice step forward for a game that’s all about slick animations and the flow state of building devastating combos. Generally, though, the game was a very pretty game even in its PS4 incarnation, and it remains a very pretty game here, whether you’re turning up the graphics and framerate or not.

An encounter with a friendly witch early in the game grants you a ‘Witch Compass’ — an invaluable item which will always point you in the direction of your current objective, meaning you’ll never get lost on this epic adventure. This compass becomes especially useful when travelling around to different areas within each realm via canoe.

In fact, despite his generally sour attitude, Kratos makes a number helpful friends throughout the game’s campaign. That includes a pair of bickering dwarf brothers, a knowledgable talking head (just go with it) and the previously mentioned witch. Though he’s always surly, Kratos is always respectful to his allies, which goes to show how much he’s calmed down in the years since the conclusion of God of War III.
