Who Are The Best Supports In LoL Patch 12.9?

Bard

Bard is back in the top tier of supports! The wandering protector from a galaxy far, far away received some buffs in lol Patch 12.8 that have taken him to new heights again. There is hardly any support with which you can have such a big impact on the game.

With Bard, you must always keep moving! By that we don’t just mean that you should whiz up and down your lane, but that you can also make a detour into the jungle or into the mid lane. The little chimes you can collect give you mana and movement speed while you travel. Only then can you unleash Bard’s full potential!

Blitzcrank

You lock in Blitzcrank and everyone on the enemy team is shivering in fear. All you have to do is hide in a bush, use your hook and miss — wait no, that’s wrong, you should actually hit your target. Bad aim aside, if you do end up landing a hook, then the opponent hit will have quite a bad time – death is in his imminent future.

Blitzcrank is one of the best supports, and he has been quite impactful in solo queue for a while. You can’t go wrong with him. Just watch this clip, and you’ll be convinced to pick the robot this patch.

Format and Methodology in In LoL Patch 12.9

Our difficulty ratings focus on how long it would take to start seeing a champion’s power level on our list in terms of the number of games invested.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) in LoL patch 12.9 – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Another example would be between Nidalee (S-tier | Intense) vs Xin Zhao (B-Tier | Simple). Let’s say you’re about to play your last match before promos and you get auto-filled to Jungle (a role you’re not too familiar with). Even though he’s lower on the list, you’d be better off choosing Xin because you don’t have the required number of games to break the skill floor of Nidalee.

Higher skill floor champions  in LoL patch 12.9 will scale better with time investment – Severe champs will outperform Simple champs in the long run because Simple champs generally have their weaknesses exposed the higher you climb.

So if your question is, “How long until I’ll start seeing results?”, the answer would be harder = longer time, easier = shorter time. If your question is. “Will this champion still be strong as I climb in ranks?”, the answer would be harder = moreso, easier = less so.

What’s changed in League of Legends patch 12.9?

Riot held back on the release of Olaf and Taliyah’s reworks until after MSI to stop the meta from changing too much, but now that time has come. With the international event to be played on the previous patch, both champions will receive their “mid-scope updates” on LoL patch 12.9.

Olaf’s changes are adding “significant excitement to his kit” by making him live up to his juggernaut identity. His jungle clear will be slightly worse due to Q and W changes, but he can now indefinitely have his ultimate, Ragnarok, active as long as he’s wailing away on enemies.

For Taliyah, the Stoneweaver is being pushed back into the mid lane with more DPS and utility, but a trade-off of lower burst damage. Her Worked Ground mechanic will now be less intrusive, and she’s getting plenty of waveclear back with the return of her AOE Q after nearly four years.

League developers are moving forward with nerfs to mid lane Pyke in LoL patch 12.9 despite community criticism. While Riot are scaling back the “very experimental” update that saw him get an infinitely stacking execute threshold on his ultimate, there’s still some changes inbound.

Pyke won’t get additional gold from the “Your Cut” passive if he gets the kill, or if an enemy dies before the cast finishes. However, he is being buffed in “support-focused ways” to try and drag him back to the bot lane.

There are also nerfs in tow for the recently-reworked Rengar and Ahri, while the “inting Sion” strategy is being targeted too. Swain has avoided any major changes after his mid-patch hotfix.

With the Pyke mid changes, as well as further nerfs to Renata Glasc, coming in LoL patch 12.9, the support meta might see a shake up. Those two changes in isolation aren’t enough, but decent buffs to Braum and Thresh will start swinging the tide as the durability update approaches.

System Nerfs in  lol Patch 12.9

There is only one change to items this patch, which is going to be for Hullbreaker. This has been a key item on champions like Trundle and Yorick who love to split push, but it has been abused on ranged champions, which prompted Riot to nerf it a few patches ago, but it’s still a great item to rush so more nerfs are coming.

Now all we need is for Riot to officially announce Bel’Veth and give us that sweet Battle Boss skin, right? Then everything would be great, but we will likely have to wait for lol Patch 12.10 or even 12.11… patience is a virtue, eh?
