A new game-breaking bug is seemingly preventing Lost Ark players from progressing, even in the Valtan Raid.
A new “game-breaking bug” in Lost Ark
According to u/Sagezu on Reddit, the bug – which is thought to have been introduced in the MMO’s most recent update – sees your item UI get stuck to the mouse pointer, essentially prohibiting you from doing anything else.
In a thread entitled “GAME BREAKING VALTAN BUG ruined the whole raid by not being able to click !!!” the Lost Ark player even added a video to exemplify the issue:
From the numerous responses from other players, it seems as though this isn’t an isolated issue, and looks to be affecting the game outside of the raid, too. For now, it looks like only exiting the game is the only way to “fix” the issue – which is incredibly frustrating for players in the midst of a complex raid. Here’s hoping there’s a hotfix soon.
ICYMI, yes, Lost Ark still has a bot problem. In a blog post, publisher Amazon Games acknowledged the continued issue and the ongoing “frustration within the community”, confirming it had permanently banned “several million accounts that participated in botting, hacking or gold-selling”.
“Since Lost Ark launched, we’ve been fighting a war against the bots infiltrating Arkesia,” Amazon dramatically wrote. “Addressing bots can be especially challenging in free-to-play games because it’s so easy to create an account and enter the game, but we’re working on multiple fronts to fight them.”
In the Lost Ark Eurogamer review, they said: “action-packed dungeons make Lost Ark’s early stages a real romp, but without a convincing hook beyond the combat, things get a little stale”.
Lost Ark Suffers from Game Breaking Exploit
Finally, an MMO that Amazon can’t mess up, right? With the monumental mass of issues that New World has had from players abusing immortality bugs to win territory wars, to the 742 different duplication methods players utilized to destroy the economy – Amazon Game Studios have repeatedly shown their sheer incompetence when it comes to game development.
But this time is different.. right? They’re not developing Lost Ark, Smilegate are. They cannot possibly mess this up, can they? There’s absolutely no way.
A Cursor Bug During Valtan Raid In Lost Ark
The MMO’s May update introduced the Valtan Legion Raid among other activities. While players were delighted with the slew of new content, a number of them were halted dead in their tracks thanks to a game breaking bug that occurred during the raid. As showcased by u/Sagezu on the Lost Ark Subreddit, it seems UI items have been getting stuck to players’ cursors, rendering them unable to do anything else unless they quit the game (thanks, Eurogamer).
The number of comments on the post indicates that a lot of players have been facing the same issue. There’s been no word by the developer so far, but considering the severity of the bug, and the fact that it affects the game’s newest content, you can expect a fix any time soon.
Hopefully, the devs aren’t too occupied fending off the legion of bots plaguing the game. Amazon provided an update on the process recently, talking about the improvements made to Easy Anti cheat and Lost Ark’s native detection system in order to stem the flow of bots and hackers.
“We know that bots have been causing frustration within the community, and we share in that frustration,” wrote Amazon on the game’s official forum. “Over the past few months we’ve made a number of changes to Lost Ark in order to combat bots. We know that there’s still work to do, and we want to share some detail on how we’re approaching this ongoing issue so we can give Lost Ark players a better experience.”

Lost Ark Bug Explained
As reported by aggravated players this week on the Lost Ark bug forums and on Reddit, this new bug – which doesn’t seem to have been present previously, so most likely arrived in the recent May update – basically causes items such as health potions to get stuck to the mouse pointer. This isn’t just a cosmetic problem, unfortunately, as it stops playing from clicking on anything too.
Players suggest the primary bug fix for this problem is either to reload or move to a new area, such as by teleporting – unfortunately, this doesn’t help anyone taking on the Valtan boss in the May update’s big new Lost Ark legion raid. If the bug hits, players are stuck in the battle with no way to escape or help fight Valtan. This is the way friendships are lost.
Lost Ark just returned from an abrupt bout of maintenance with some compensation for players, but there’s no word yet if this bug was one of the reasons for the game going offline – or whether it’s fixed yet. Until it’s confirmed, best to stay off the new raid for now.
The only fix to Lost Ark bug is to “fully restart”
The issue? Well, it looks as though since the May update, players are finding that their mouse pointer is “sticking” to menu items, making it difficult to see what’s happening on screen, and impossible to do anything else.
Redditor Sagezu posted a video that showed the issue happening in the middle of the raid. Whilst some have found ways to temporarily solve the problem, it seems that the only way to prevent it from coming straight back is to quit the game completely.
“No, it comes right back unless you fully restart,” confirmed another player. “At least that has been my experience. Changing characters removes the item from your cursor, but the instant you try to use one again, it happens again.”
We’ll keep you posted and hope that developer Smilegate is able to resolve the issue sooner rather than later.
Lost Ark may not have been out that long, but it’s already one of the biggest games to ever hit Steam. Within 24 hours of release, it clocked up so many players that it now boasts the second-highest concurrent peak ever on Steam.
ICYMI, Lost Ark players without verified Steam accounts “in good standing” may find their accounts restricted as part of Smilegate’s ongoing battle against bots.
Smilegate has “been hard at work on crafting effective tools and methods to identify and remove bots from the game”, banning over a million “bot” accounts from its servers in March and earlier this month, it released Valtan, Lost Ark’s first Legion raid, onto western servers later this month.
