Pokemon Legends: Arceus Review: Will it have new Pokémon? How to change Pokémon Forms?

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Gameplay Preview

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. It is part of the eighth generation of the Pokémon video game series and serves as a prequel to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (2006), their enhanced version Pokémon Platinum (2008), and their remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (2021). The game was first announced as part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event in February 2021, and was released worldwide on 28 January 2022.

Will Pokémon Legends: Arceus have new Pokémon?

Pokemon Legends: Arceus launches for Nintendo Switch this Friday, and it’s a markedly different experience than previous Pokemon games. Set long before Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, when the Sinnoh region was known as Hisui and the concept of Pokemon trainers hadn’t yet been established, the upcoming adventure tasks players with traveling around the land to catalog its first Pokedex.

Although many familiar Pokemon can be found in Hisui, the region is also home to an assortment of brand-new monsters, including new evolutions like Kleavor and new regional forms like Hisuian Voltorb. Ahead of its launch, here’s a look at every new Pokemon that has been officially revealed for Pokemon Legends: Arceus so far. Be sure to also check out the new extended gameplay trailer for an in-depth look at Pokemon catching, missions and more.

Wyrdeer
Wyrdeer is a brand-new evolved form of Stantler exclusive to the Hisui region. It is able to unleash psychic energy from the black orbs in its antlers, and it’s highly revered among the people of Hisui. Players can summon and ride Wyrdeer by playing the Celestica Flute.

Basculegion
Basculegion is a Hisui-exclusive evolution of Basculin. According to Pokemon lore, Basculin evolves when it’s “possessed by the souls of other Basculin from its school that could not withstand the harsh journey upstream.” Similar to Wyrdeer, players can summon Basculegion with the Celestica Flute and ride it across bodies of water.

Kleavor
Scyther in the Hisui region are able to evolve into a brand-new Pokemon called Kleavor. This monster is part-rock and attacks using its axe-like arms. As part of their expedition, players will need to battle and quell a frenzied Kleavor.

How to change Pokémon Forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Rotom
In order to change Rotom’s form, you’ll need the following items. They can be purchased randomly from the Ginko Guild in Jubilife City.

Dialga
To get Dialga’s new, hideous form, you need the Adamant Crystal. To obtain his, complete the request The Diamond Clan’s Treause. You’ll be offered this quest once you’ve rolled credits.

Palkia
Similar to Dialga, in order to get this form you’ll need the Lustroud Globe, which is obtained from finishing the mission The Pearl Clan’s Trasure.

Giratina
The easiest of the bunch, once you catch Giratina you’ll be given the Griseous Orb which can be used to swap Giratina between forms.

Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus & Enamorus
Upon completiting Incarnate Forces of Hisui, a mission which tasks you with finding these Pokémon, you’ll be given The Reveal Glass, which is a key item you can use on any of the four to reveal their alternate forms.

Shaymin
In order to get Shaymin’s Sky Forme, you can use the Gracidea, which was given to you as part of the mission to catch Shaymin, in order to change its form.

What are Massive Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Massive Mass Outbreaks are when about a dozen different Mass Outbreaks are happening on a map at the same time.

As with regular Mass Outbreaks, if there’s a Massive Mass Outbreak, the gate guard in Jubilife Village will warn you.

Once you get to the area, Mai and her Munchlax will be stationed at the camps. You can feed Munchlax 5 Aguav Berries to reveal what’s at each outbreak, otherwise they’ll remain a question mark on your map until you go to the area.

The Massive Mass Outbreaks will only be around for as long as it’s storming, and once the storm ends the outbreak will end. We were able to get to 3-4 different outbreaks before the Massive Mass Outbreak ended.

HOW DO I GET MASSIVE MASS OUTBREAKS IN POKÉMON LEGENDS: ARCEUS?
Massive Mass Outbreaks are postgame content, meaning you have to have beaten the main story for the game to access them. Once you do, Mai will appear with a request, and you’ll start a quest that involves investigating the Massive Mass Outbreaks.

Once you complete all of these requests, Massive Mass Outbreaks will start appearing in all of the areas.

How to turn on motion controls in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Confusingly, the game doesn’t make it particularly clear that it features gyro controls — and they’re off by default, so if you’re struggling with your Poké Ball aim it’s well worth enabling the option to boost your accuracy.

It’s pretty simple:

When in the game press UP on the D-Pad to open up your satchel.
Then use ‘ZL’ or ‘ZR’ to navigate to the Help tab on the far right. From there, scroll down to Settings.

Halfway down the screen you can see Motion Sensitivity, which is set to 0 (off) by default. You can find a motion setting that suits you, with sensitivity options of 1 to 3. Experiment and find a sensitivity that suits you.

The motion controls work either with Joy-Con controllers (including in portable play or using the inbuilt gyro controls in Switch Lite) or the Pro Controller.

How to catch Arceus in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

To find Arceus, you must first finish the main story, and the post-game story as well. After you successfully defeat Volo, a new cutscene will show up, where your flute will become the fabled Azure Flute, and your Arc Phone will tell you to go and capture every pokemon, once again. The final Main Mission, called “The Deified Pokemon”, will then begin.

Now, as you may have noticed, if you go to the summit and play the Azure Flute without having the Pokedex complete in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, nothing will happen. However, once you have filled it with the information of every single pokemon in Hisui, something different will happen when you play it, and a stairway made of light will show up for you to climb.

At the end of the stairway will be a circular arena made of light, up in the sky, and Arceus will show up after a cutscene, triggering the battle encounter. This is it, this is the final battle in the entire game, so rest assured that it will be an absolute nightmare. The fight itself will be similar to any of the frenzied nobles, but Arceus will showcase an amalgam of movements that it will alternate at will, depending on how much of its bar you have depleted, indicated by a blue or red aura surrounding it.

If Arceus has a Blue aura:

Arceus will shoot multiple light beams, this attack will make a whistling sound before they’re shot.

If Arceus has a Red aura:

Arceus will disappear, only to reappear behind you a few seconds after, crashing through a portal at high speed.

Arceus in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will teleport away, re-appearing far from you while charging an AoE attack that will explode after a few seconds.

Will Arceus be in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

If you’re playing Pokémon Legends Arceus and you’ve been playing for a few dozen hours now, you may be wondering if it’s possible to capture Arceus, the Pokémon that gives its name to this game. The short answer is yes.

What is the point of Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

“Arceus” improves the classic find-and-catch loop of the series by adding more collectibles around the environment, all of which can be crafted to make essential Pokémon-catching tools.

Where is Mai legends arceus?

This is one of the new missions including in the Pokemon Legends Arceus update “Daybreak” that the recent Pokemon Direct foretold. To find this one you’re going to want to head to the Heights Camp in Obsidian Fieldlands. There you’ll find Mai and her Munchlax hanging out and looking for you.

Who is the villain in Legends: Arceus?

Volo is the main antagonist of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. A member of the Ginkgo Guild, he at first assists the player in their journey through the Hisui region.
