Ragnarok Online in 2021
Ragnarok Online (Alternatively subtitled The Final Destiny of the Gods) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) created by Gravity based on the manhwa Ragnarok by Lee Myung-jin. It was released in South Korea on 31 August 2002 for Microsoft Windows. The game has spawned an animated series, Ragnarok the Animation, and a sequel game, Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second. Player characters exist in a world with a player environment that gradually changes with the passage of time. Major changes in the features and history of the world take place as episodes in the RO timeline.
Ragnarok Online is a MMOG RPG set in the fictional land of Midgard. Although there is a background story, the game is open-ended. Players can choose from a variety of job classes. A typical activity on Ragnarok Online would be leveling characters and finding powerful equipment and items. These can be used to fight monster bosses or in one on one combat with other players. A big feature of this game is the War of Emperium, in which different factions, or guilds, can battle for and take castles. These castles give access to dungeons and treasures only available to the residing guild. Ragnarok Origin has a vibrant economy as well. This economy is based on buying and selling regular and rare items dropped by monsters through the use of Zeny, the Midgard currency. Ragnarok Online offers anime-style 2D characters on 3D backdrops and is updated monthly.
Is Ragnarok Online free to play?
Ragnarok Online is a popular free 3D fantasy MMORPG based on Norse mythology inspired by the anime written by MJ Lee. Ragnarok Online was entirely pay to play but in October 2008 gravity launched a free to play server called Valkyrie (Valkyrie Server Client).
Players can select from a wide range of job classes (over 20) that suit their individual playing style. Each job class comes with a unique array of skills and abilities. The strengths and weaknesses of these classes encourages to players of different types to form parties.
Ragnarok Online is a great game with beautifull visuals and music. The game got so much fame that even the style is “copied” by other free MMORPG games like Secret of the Solstice and Water Margin Online.
Although it does showcase 2D sprites and a targeted combat system, the real aspect where the game works its magic is in working out character builds.
According to the Ragnarok Online Steam page, the game currently supports 32 different classes all starting from the basic novice class. There will be monthly events and weekly updates so you won’t run out of things to do and look forward to.
If you’d like to try Ragnarok Online on Steam, you can download the Steam client for free from their official website. Aside from more information and updates, you can also find Ragnarok Mobile forums, the official game group, and community groups on Ragnarok Online’s Steam page.
Can you play Ragnarok Online on PC or Mobile?
It’s a double dose of Ragnarok in this news post, which is kind of odd considering the event of Ragnarok is supposed to be a world-ending apocalypse. In any case, we’ll try to make sure this doesn’t end up being too confusing, as we’re dealing with entirely different game studios and game experiences here.
First, the lineup of games based on Ragnarok Online is expanding once more as Gravity Studio announced its overall game release plans for this year. Launches include the newly-released mobile title The Labyrinth of Ragnarok, the upcoming mobile game The Lost Memories: A Song of Valkyrie and the PC game Ragnarok Begins for the second half of 2021, and of course the in-development 3-D mobile title Project S, which will host closed beta in the second half of this year. We’re entering Lineage levels of IP bloat, folks.
Lastly, NetEase introduced players across the globe to Project: Ragnarok in a first-ever English product showcase. This one is a mobile strategy MMO that features cross-play between mobile devices and PC, and sees players fighting to stop the end of the world. The reveal came with a trailer that we’ve got embedded below, though the footage in question is a demonstration and not the game’s final graphics. In other words, it’s the sizzliest of sizzle reels.
Specifically, the PC version will let players start as a ‘Novice’ and progress by mastering next tier classic game classes such as acolyte, archer, thief, merchant, mage, and assassin. Teh game will also have several competitive features, from grinding, boss hunting to joining guilds. There will also be battle events which will lead into Live Regional Tournaments and other competitions that competitive players can look forward to. Finally, the new Ragnarok Online release on PC game will feature an open-world setting.

Every player starts out as a novice class character, from there you choose a class. Multiple branching paths when you level up adds up to a total of 32 classes, each with their own specific abilities. -Steam Info (not RO Prime)
In the world of Rune Midgard in Ragnarok Online, it was a time of strife between the Gods, Humans and demons…Battle weary from the long war’s carnage, the factions entered into an uneasy truce. The truce grew into a fragile peace that lasted for a thousand years.
Ragnarok Online is alive and well in 2020. All the servers combined have an approximate population of 33k daily players and the total amount that played in the last month is about 490k. The most populated servers have an average of 1k population at all times. The numbers across all servers tend to grow slowly.
Ragnarok Online servers across Europe are shutting down following new service policy changes made under its publisher, WarpPortal.
“Since we know so many still enjoy Ragnarok Online 2, the game will remain open, but without a development team it will remain as it is and will not be receiving any further development, for updates or events. We want to thank everyone who has worked on Ragnarok Online 2 since the servers went live.
Speculations. Because of the sudden announcement, many long-standing players of pRO theorized that the Level Up’s decision to shut down the 12-year old MMORPG was due to the local publishers’ inability to deliver the necessary royalty dues to Ragnarok’s Korean developer, Gravity Games.
