Why did Cypher get disabled in Valorant?
Valorant update 4.04 has been a pretty flawed patch from Riot Games that caused many issues in the game upon its launch.
Not long after Riot Games dropped the new update, they removed both Yoru and Astra from the game to apply some essential fixes to the characters. Hopefully, they both came back to the roster several hours later.
However, it wasn’t the end of urgent fixes. Later last night, the official Twitter account of Valorant revealed that they were disabling Cypher as well.
Cypher was disabled in Valorant due to an Exploit After Update 4.04
As revealed on Twitter, Riot Games says that Cypher has been disabled due to an exploit that needs an urgent fix. It’s yet to be seen when the character will be back to the game, but it’s over 6 hours now, and Cypher is still out of reach for players.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any clue on what the exploit was. We know that Cypher previously had some glitches in his tripwire that granted him an unfair advantage, but those bugs were already supposed to be fixed with update 4.04 unless the fix causes a bigger issue!
This is really disappointing that Riot Games has not tested the updates before rolling them out and applying them to the game’s main servers. If Valorant had a Public Test Server similar to many other competitive multiplayer games, these issues wouldn’t come up.

Is Cypher back in Valorant?
Cypher was removed from the competitive agent selection and also from the agent tab on the home page of the game. Valorant officials confirmed that they will be removing Cypher after an exploit was detected.
It was announced on the official Twitter page of valorant. At this stage, fan theories were made to remove Jett too for public reaction and stuff like that. The decision was made on the dawn of 3rd March 2022.
But guess what Valorant was too concerned with this issue and fixed the bug within 24 hours and officially announced that Cypher is back online on the agent selection table.
The announcement was made in a sarcastic way which made an attractive impact on valorant players. Officials of Valorant announced that “Cypher has found his hat and is now back in all queues. Thanks for your patience on this one!”. The announcement was made on the dawn of 4th March 2022 officially on the official Twitter page of valorant.
What are the abilities of Cypher in Valorant?
EQUIP a trapwire. FIRE to place a destructible and covert tripwire at the targeted location, creating a line that spans between the placed location and the wall opposite. Enemy players who cross a tripwire will be tethered, revealed, and dazed after a short period if they do not destroy the device in time. This ability can be picked up to be REDEPLOYED.
INSTANTLY toss the cyber cage in front of Cypher. ACTIVATE to create a zone that blocks vision and plays an audio cue when enemies pass through it.
EQUIP a spycam. FIRE to place the spycam at the targeted location. RE-USE this ability to take control of the camera’s view. While in control of the camera, FIRE to shoot a marking dart. This dart will reveal the location of any player struck by the dart.
INSTANTLY use on a dead enemy player in your crosshairs to reveal the location of all living enemy players.
How to Use Trapwires and Cyber Cages
Trapwires and Cyber Cages are Cypher’s key abilities when defending certain areas of the map. With the amount of charges the abilities can hold, which is 2 of each ability, Cypher can hold multiple entry points in the map.
Try to be more creative when using your Trapwire as it can be easily spotted on obvious entry points as they are mostly seen on walls.
Here is a perfect example of a good Trapwire. It will not be easy to locate the Trapwire once an enemy enters B Windows through B Short. They would have to look up to see the Trapwire and would be vulnerable to a peek. There are only 2 entry points in defending the B Site and this could disrupt the push significantly.
Once the enemy jumps out of the window, they will get stuck mid-air and would be an easy kill. You can combine this with a well placed Cyber Cage and you can pick one enemy off while blocking the line of sight of his teammates.
Cyber Cage is extremely useful because while it blocks line of sight from enemies, it is impossible to push through it. Cypher will be notified when someone has entered his cage and will be slowed and be visible as well.
Cyber Cages can also be efficiently used when placed on a higher wall especially in pathways. Once activated, Cypher or other teammates can see through under the Cyber Cage while the opposing side cannot. This is called the “one way smoke” and the strategy is usable on every map.
Cypher’s gameplay in Valorant
Cypher’s strengths definitely come on defence. With his camera and trapwires, you won’t be left having to poke your head out, and risk getting dinked, just to gain intel.
Before the round starts, take some time to lay down some trapwires and cages, as the enemy won’t be able to hear you set them up. Then, when they inevitably walk into them, you’ve got the instant vision for an easy kill.
So, if Cypher is so well-suited to defending, what happens on Attack? Don’t let the Agent’s Sentinel style fool you, as Cypher can be just as effective on the offence.
Use your trapwires at the start of a round to ensure no pesky Defenders try to execute a flank. It’s a win-win: you either catch them for easy intel, or they shoot it – which gives away their location – or they’re forced to turn back.
Cypher’s traps in Valorant are also a superb device for holding a site. Placing a trapwire to cut off access points to the bomb can be a simple way of preventing a ninja defuse.
Cypher is unquestionably one of the best Valorant Agents to master. He can become the best flanking Agent, with his abilities allowing players to trap and locate enemies easily, making it easier for the entire team to get kills and, ultimately, win.
