Ryan Thomas Gosling (born November 12, 1980) is a Canadian actor. Prominent in independent film, he is also credited for his work in blockbuster films of varying genres, and has accrued a worldwide box office gross of over 1.9 billion USD. Throughout his three-decade career, he has received various accolades, including a Golden Globe Award, and an Independent Spirit Award. He has also received nominations for two Academy Awards, a British Academy Film Award and four Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Are Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes still married?
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are one of the most private couples in Hollywood. Though the pair aren’t technically married, they have been partners since 2011 and have two daughters together, which also makes them one of the most consistent, stable couples in the business.
In 2017, Gosling broke their usual protocol when he gushed over Mendes in his acceptance speech after winning a Golden Globe for his performance in La La Land. “I just would like to try and thank one person properly and say that, while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he said. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me. So sweetheart, thank you.”
Here’s everything we know about Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’s enviable relationship.
The pair hit it off while filming The Place Beyond the Pines, which came out in 2013. Gosling and Mendes were then spotted on a date at Disneyland just after brief dalliances Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, respectively. Remarkably, those two would end up entering their own long-term relationship that same year. Wilde and Sudeikis, who split in November 2020, also share two children.
Gosling opened up about parenting with Mendes during the pandemic. “Our kids are young, so it was a tough time for them to be separated from other kids and not being able to see family and whatnot. So, we did our best to entertain them,” Gosling said in an interview with GQ.
Why did Ryan Gosling stop acting?
Like much of the world, Ryan Gosling likely took 2020 off, staying safe from the worldwide pandemic, but the two years prior and the two years since, and even during the pandemic, the actor was quietly working on some projects behind the scenes that have finally started to take shape. Gosling has lined up a number of high-profile projects both in front of the camera and behind it in a creative capacity, setting up an exciting new future for the actor.
The most obvious reason for Gosling’s absence from the silver screen is likely the simplest, as he has decided to spend more time with his family. His first daughter was born in 2014, which coincided with the actor’s first major absence from films, and his second daughter was born in 2016 before the release of La La Land. When First Man was released in 2018, his oldest would have been four and youngest two, so the actor likely decided to spend more time with his kids as they grew up.
His partner, star Eva Mendes (who he met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines), has also taken a similar break from movies and has not starred in a movie since 2014, the birth of their first daughter. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic likely made for some much-needed family time. With one child now roughly eight and the other six, he most likely feels more comfortable going back to work.
Gosling’s next film is The Gray Man, from Avengers: Endgame director Joe and Anthony Russo, the Russo brothers who have made more MCU films than anyone else and have directed iconic episodes of television. The film is an action-spy thriller and co-stars Chris Evans, making it the first time the two actors have worked together.
Ryan Gosling Gets Ken Role
Someone once famously told Ryan Gosling, “Seriously? It’s like you’re Photoshopped,” which seems to be the direct inspiration for his role as Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie.
In the abs-forward first look of the actor in director Greta Gerwig’s live-action take on the iconic Mattel figure, Gosling embodies the plastic hunk in his full glory.
Sporting bleached blonder than blond hair, presumably buckets of spray tan lotion and his own personalized “Ken” underwear, the star leans into the fantasy in an image shared Wednesday by Warner Bros.
In the photo, Gosling ever so suavely poses against a signature Barbie pink backdrop with his muscles busting out of a denim ensemble, which includes a ripped vest and matching jeans.
The photo serves as the perfect complement to the first look at Margot Robbie as the titular doll released in April.
If placed side-by-side, the famous couple could even be looking at each other, given the similar color palettes and coordinating outfits. Robbie, who is perched in the seat of a pink Chevrolet Corvette convertible in the photo, however, looks a bit more ’60s inspired, while Gosling could be lifted directly out of a ’90s Marky Mark-style underwear campaign.
Details on the plot of the film remain scarce, but according to New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan, the project will feature multiple versions of Barbie and Ken.
Last month, Liu teased what fans might expect from the script, which an agent described as “one of the best” he had ever read.
Robbie has also dropped some hints about the film’s approach to the character. Back in 2020, the actor and producer remarked on the responsibility she feels to do right by Barbie’s legacy and subvert audiences’ expectations surrounding her casting and also Ryan Gosling.
