Markéta Vondroušová is a Czech professional tennis player. She reached a career-high ranking of world no. 14 by the WTA in 2019.
She was born on 28 June 1999 in Sokolov, Czech Republic. Her father introduced her to tennis at the age of four. Vondroušová started playing tennis at a young age and enjoyed success as a junior. She was world no. 1 in junior rankings in 2015 and won two junior Grand Slam doubles titles.
Vondroušová turned professional in 2014. Her breakthrough came in 2017 when she won her first WTA title at the age of 17 by winning the Ladies Open Biel Bienne. This helped her break into the top 100 of the WTA rankings.
Her best result so far came at the 2019 French Open where she reached her first and only Grand Slam final as a teenager, losing to Ashleigh Barty. She also won a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Vondroušová’s playing style relies on a variety of shots and a strong drop shot. She is considered one of the best returners on the WTA Tour. She is still active on the tour currently ranked no. 42.
