Adam Jensen is a fictional character featured in the Deus Ex series, serving as the player character in Eidos-Montréal’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011) and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016). Initially, Jensen is a former police officer who becomes the Chief of Security for Sarif Industries. However, he is critically injured during an assault on the company’s facilities at the start of Human Revolution. As part of his employment contract, Jensen is forcefully augmented with mechanical enhancements to replace his damaged body parts. Throughout the game, Jensen embarks on a quest to uncover the culprits responsible for the attack.
In Mankind Divided, which takes place a few years after the events of Human Revolution, Jensen is assigned the task of tracking down and apprehending augmented terrorists. He is portrayed as a character that allows players to shape their own perspective on augmentation and is presented as an outsider to both augmented and unaugmented individuals. Jensen’s visual appearance underwent several iterations, taking two and a half years to fully develop distinct looks for his social and combat attire. For Mankind Divided, the character design was revisited in collaboration with an external clothing company. Elias Toufexis provides the voice for Jensen in both games.
Beyond the games, Adam Jensen has made appearances in various tie-in media. He debuted in a comic series released prior to the launch of Human Revolution and serves as a central character in that comic series, as well as in Black Light and Children’s Crusade. Additionally, he makes appearances in other media, such as The Dawning Darkness and Hard Line, albeit in different forms or capacities.
