War Thunder Plane Guide: Tips for Mastering Air Combat
Here are useful tips to help you master air combat in War Thunder:
• Energy Management – Maintaining higher kinetic (speed) and potential (altitude) energy gives you an advantage. Dive to build speed, climb to regain altitude.
• Turn Rate – Different planes have different turn rates. Know your plane’s optimal maneuvering speed for the sharpest turns. Out-turn your enemies.
• Boom and Zoom – Use a diving attack (“boom”) on an enemy, fire your weapons then zoom climb away (“zoom”) before they can retaliate. Then repeat.
• Defensive Flying – Always be aware of your surroundings and potential threats. Use evasive maneuvers if engaged, then plan an escape.
• Guns Lead – You need to “lead” (aim in front of) a moving target with your guns to score hits. The farther the target, the more lead required. Practice until you develop a feel for it.
• Use Energy Traps – Cutting an enemy’s speed or altitude robs them of energy. They become vulnerable to your attacks.
• Head-on Engagements – Only engage in head-ons if you have a Large caliber cannon. It’s typically a high risk, low reward maneuver.
• Prioritize Targets – Attack bombers first, then fighters posing the greatest threat to your teammates.
• Stay with your Wingman – Two planes working together have a significant advantage over a single plane. Cover for each others’ blind spots.
• Situational Awareness – Always watch your surroundings, the mini-map and keep track of enemy planes. Avoid getting caught off guard.
Hopefully these tips help! Mastering aircraft in War Thunder takes practice and experience. The most important thing is to keep flying, learning from both your successes and failures. Let me know if you have any other questions!
