The world of Elden Ring is chocked full of nomadic merchants that each have their own unique inventory to sell you. Since the game doesn’t make these guys when you find them and doesn’t offer any way for you to mark their location yourself, it can be a bit tricky trying to find them all, […]

Elden Ring is an Action role-playing Game
developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
The game was made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game’s setting.
It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.
What is Elden Ring?
Elden Ring is available on Steam for PC, but based on early reports of poor performance and a good number of bugs, PC players may want to hold off until additional patches are released.
The game is presented through third-person perspective, and the player may freely roam in its interactive free form exploration open world.
Elden Ring Gameplay
Gameplay elements include fights, looting, horseback riding, interacting with non-player characters, and maintaining the character’s status through levelling up, enhancing equipment and weapons, and learning spells.
The game’s development lasted approximately six years. Upon release, Elden Ring received critical acclaim, with praise for its open world and gameplay, which was considered an improvement to the Souls formula.
Is Elden Ring like Dark Souls?
In so many ways, Elden Ring is just like Dark Souls, but with more modern graphics and far more sections of its world to explore.
I’m still spending most of my play-through with a massive ax and a shield in my hands, just like I did in Dark Souls. I still face bosses that terrify and bewilder me, forcing me to take stock of my own mental fortitude — and more importantly, my own patience in recognizing their attack patterns and following up with my own tactical responses.
Elden Ring Review
The bosses’ health bars in Elden Ring are fucking huge, reminding me more of Bloodborne than Dark Souls, so I need quite a bit of patience to whittle them down — at least, if I don’t have help from a co-op partner or any of the available helper NPCs, two Elden Ring mechanics that are also present in previous FromSoftware games, to help make them easier.
What do you do in Elden Ring?
in Elden Ring, don’t go straight to the big castle or buildings planted at the end of every major area. It feels natural to barrel toward something that looks like it’ll move the story forward as soon as possible, but that’s not really how the game is designed. If you want a massive challenge, go for it, but Elden Ring is structured more like an MMO. The open world is for exploring, doing side quests, defeating minibosses, collecting gear, and leveling up. The dungeons, or castles, are more like raids that jump up in difficulty and hold bosses with multiple phases.
Is Elden Ring Harder or Easier than Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro
It’s the hardest FromSoftware game so far, harder than Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro. There are bigger level-jumps between main bosses so it will require a lot more grinding for level-ups between areas. The difficulty spikes up more noticeably from one main boss to the next, often requiring hours of grinding level-ups to stand a chance.
What makes Elden Ring harder:
- Much bigger difficulty spikes between areas and main bosses, requiring hours of farming level-ups to stand a chance.
- Frequently getting 1-hitted by bosses and even normal mobs, wearing light or medium armor at 20+ points Vigor (health stat). Be prepared to pump a lot of points into Vigor, especially after the first main bosses and then again in late-game areas when the difficulty starts to spike up.
- Enemies/Bosses have more resistances than previous games. For example, some have high resistance to magic (e.g. dragons), requiring you to mix up your playstyle when playing a mage, otherwise you deal hardly any damage against some bosses.
Is Elden Ring like Skyrim?
Elden Ring drops you into a massive dark-fantasy world where you set out to explore—think The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, if you’ve played those, but drawn by Frank Frazetta or Zdzisław Beksiński. This world is filled with strange animals and creatures that want to kill you, goofy non-player characters who drop enigmatic info about the fragments of the Elden Ring, and an abundance of cryptic secrets in the environment. The game leaves the decision to engage with its story up to you.
