This planned significant addition for Bungie’s first-person shooter video game, Destiny 2, will be called Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. An expansion for Destiny 2 initially scheduled for release in late 2021 has been delayed by six months owing to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be available on March 5, 2022, at 10 a.m. PST
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Every thing you need to know
Destiny 2’s expansions drive the game forward with tons of new story content, loot to earn, enemies to fight, gameplay systems to engage with, and more. Because of this, Destiny 2 continues to solidify itself as one of the best Xbox shooters available. For example, Destiny 2’s latest expansion, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, introduced the icy world of Europa, Darkness-powered Stasis subclasses, the Deep Stone Crypt raid, and plenty of new weapons, armors, and Exotics to chase after.
Based on everything Bungie has shown for the upcoming expansion Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, it sounds like this DLC will be even more impactful and content-rich than Beyond Light. Here’s a comprehensive overview of everything we know about The Witch Queen, including when it’s releasing, what the story and campaign will be like, what new features will be added, and more.
How is the Gameplay?
Savathûn’s Throne World will be added to the Ascendant Realm by the Witch Queen. A new Throne Globe-themed raid will be added in addition to the regular activities of the world. The expansion will also include the inclusion of two new dungeons. A new “Legendary” difficulty will be added to old and new storey material, making it more difficult for lone players to complete, but with better rewards for those that do. Additionally, the Tangled Shore location and its associated activities will be relocated to the Destiny Content Vault, but the Dreaming City, the Last Wish raid, the Shattered Throne dungeon, and the strikes will remain in the game.
All players will be able to access the endgame content of Forsaken by purchasing a bundle pack on December 7, 2021, the day before the campaign becomes free-to-play for everyone. The Battlegrounds activity from Season of the Chosen (Season 13) will survive as a Vanguard Operations among the other current strikes, despite the other seasonal activities from Beyond Light (2020) being removed.
Who is the new opponent?
Savathûn’s Lucent Brood, Hive warriors with the power of Light, will be a new important opponent in The Witch Queen. When it comes to the Arc, Solar, and Void classes, they will have similar light-focused skills as the players’ Guardian characters and their own Ghosts that can bring them back to life if the Guardians can’t destroy the Ghost within a specific time frame.
In contrast to the previous three Light powers, which each had three subtrees from which to choose, Stasis in Beyond Light featured configurable Aspects and Fragments to provide the user greater control over how the power may be used by the player. Aspects and Fragments of the original Light abilities, such as Void, will be introduced during the course of The Witch Queen. The fundamental abilities will be preserved, but players will be able to add and remove effects to them as they see fit. It is possible that Bungie plans to offer further Darkness powers, but they will not be implemented until the Light power conversion has been accomplished in The Witch Queen.
Weaving together both melee and short-range weapons, the glaive is the new weapon type introduced by the Witch Queen. For the first time, glaives feature abilities that may be modified by the user, unlike most other weapon drops. Bungie’s Joe Blackburn has indicated that the system would not be like weapon building in massively multiplayer online games, it will not favour experienced players over novices, and it will not contain pay-to-win-style mechanisms.. Crafting weapons will allow players to tailor a weapon to their playstyle or to move a weapon within the shifting meta without having to “farm” for a new version of the weapon.
These are some of the most notable changes:
Shadowkeep introduced the seasonal artefact, which provides unique mods and bonus power levels across all characters on a player’s account for a season, but in The Witch Queen players will have the ability to gain more than the standard 12 of 25 mods through experience gains; each mod beyond the 12th will require an increasing amount of experience to obtain.
Glimmer (the in-game cash) and an upgrade module will be the primary means of changing the element type of an armour piece. With this modification, players won’t have to carry as many different types of armour in their bags or vaults to protect themselves from the various elements.
Multikills with masterworked weapons will no longer yield orbs of power; instead, a set of helmet modifications will generate orbs when a weapon of the same element or type as the mod is used to achieve multikills. This is a significant change. The new weapon crafting mechanism will be included into this.
Rare quality (blue) engrams that drop from playlist activities can be instantly converted to in-game cash if the player hits the “soft limit” power level with The Witch Queen (1500 at the start of the expansion). Before the soft cap is reached, rare quality engrams will still drop to aid levels.
Development
Destiny 2’s annual expansion cycle, which began with the massive Forsaken expansion, has evolved to include four smaller seasonal expansions. Destiny 2’s fifth year of DLC was supposed to begin with The Witch Queen, which was due out around the end of 2021. It was announced in February of 2021 that The Witch Queen will be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the bustle of the late-2021 release calendar. Bungie has announced an unique series of events in the game to mark the company’s 30th anniversary, which will begin in December 2021 with the Beyond Light expansion.
As Guardians, the players in The Witch Queen were tasked with finding out how Savathûn gained possession of the Light for her Lucent Brood in Savathûn’s Throne World. The Throne World is built on a swamp-like setting inspired by the television programme True Detective, according to Blackburn, who also added that the campaign will be the action game equivalent of a mystery game. Even though Season of Dawn (Season 9) does not include a huge alternate reality game, Blackburn indicated that Bungie does want people to work individually and collectively to uncover the season’s mysteries.
As part of Beyond Light (2020), The Witch Queen and the subsequent expansion, Lightfall, were initially scheduled for late 2021 and early 2022 release dates, respectively. It was stated that The Witch Queen had been postponed to February 2022, Lightfall was also delayed to early 2023 and another expansion, The Final Shape, was planned for early 2024 when the announcement was made. With this, Bungie will put an end to the “Light and Darkness Saga” the first major arc in Destiny 2, and set the stage for the introduction of a new arc after The Final Shape.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Deluxe Edition is $80 and includes the main DLC and additional Year 5 content like an Exotic SMG, a Throne World Exotic Sparrow, access to two new endgame dungeons, and Season Passes for each Year 5 season
On its own, the “Destiny 2 Witch Queen” price is $39.99, with the first season included. To further emphasize on the Reddit post, the Bungie community manager stated that players will be able to access the dungeons by upgrading to the Deluxe Edition, and Bungie “will also add a separate access path in the future.
In The Witch Queen campaign, you’ll be journeying to Savathûn’s Throne World to uncover more about her lies, alone or with friends, and even on a harder difficulty. A Legendary difficulty campaign option will also be available and will reward players for their efforts if they emerge successful
Some items will be removed from the game and from all players’ inventories as soon as Destiny 2’s Year 5 beings, and they include: All Bounties, missions, and quests from the Tangled Shore, the Forsaken campaign, Season of the Hunt, Season of the Chosen, Season of the Splicer, and Season of the Lost
