Guilty Gear Strive’s content updates resume their rollout, and the game’s fourth DLC character, Baiken, is just a few days away from releasing. Her release and stage aren’t the only things hitting PlayStation consoles and PCs on January 28th for Guilty Gear, though, as a new feature, free to all players, will come out alongside Baiken. This new feature will be great for players who want to refine their game against opponents.
Guilty Gear Strive Adds Baiken as the Next DLC Fighter
In essence, the player can use the Combo Maker to create staple combos and set play routes for others to use, upload them to online servers, and other players can utilize them at no charge to either player. This is kind of like how other fighting games handled this loop, and let’s break it down in comparison.
Let’s take a game like, say, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In comparison to this game and the way it handles these new trials, UMVC3 had ten missions available for all 50 playable characters, giving them combos they could so solo, combos they could do with assists, and unique routes they could take advantage of, often using multiple supers or mechanics tied to those characters.
Guilty Gear Strive, relatively speaking, has the same ideal in mind with this, except it’s the community that generates these combo challenges, rather than the developer doing it before release. It’ll be interesting to see what the community will come up w
When is Baiken playable in Guilty Gear Strive?
Guilty Gear Strive’s first character pass is underway, and the fourth character is Baiken. The one-armed samurai is a popular character, and many were hoping she would return. Those looking forward to playing as Baiken in Guilty Gear Strive may be wondering when she becomes playable.
Baiken will be playable in Guilty Gear Strive on Jan. 28 for those who purchased the Season Pass, and those who purchased the individual DLC can play as her on Jan. 31. Arc System Works showcases Baiken, and the changes to her kit in Guilty Gear Strive in the trailer below.
A new addition to her kit appears to be some sort of grappling rope she can use to pull opponents closer. Baiken also wields a katana and a flintlock pistol. Baiken looks to be loads of fun from the character reveal trailer as she was in previous games.
The Unfaltering Awakened Samurai Baiken is the fourth character in the season pass following Happy Chaos. Also included with her is The Lap of the Kami stage.
Who is Guilty Gear’s Baiken? Learn her backstory, play style, how she lost an arm
The next character en route to join Guilty Gear Strive is one of the franchise’s most beloved figures: the one armed, one eyed Baiken.
Who exactly is this somewhat salty samurai and why does she have revenge constantly on her mind? In his latest installment of “Ridiculous characters of fighting game history,” Rooflemonger tells us all about Baiken’s identity, lore, and play style so as to prepare us for her coming arrival in Strive.
In looking at Goldlewis’ Behemoth Typhoon system, Jack-O’s manipulative minions, and Happy Chaos’ crazy gun, it’s clear developers have been going out of their way to make the newcomers to Strive stand out as very unique additions when it comes to how they function while fighting.
Baiken does have some unique traits in her past iterations as she’s traditionally been able to counter attacks and has even been able to place special debuffs on her opponents. Some of these were a bit on the overpowered side, as Rooflemonger notes, and had to be toned down in later appearances.
Getting this refresh on who Baiken is and how she’s evolved over the years may give us some insight when it comes to predicting how Arc Sys will update her for Strive.
Check out Rooflemonger’s video below to hear all about the franchise favorite. Baiken is scheduled to make her way into Guilty Gear Strive in late January and will be the fourth of five Season 1 DLC characters to join the roster.
The One-Eyed Warrior Baiken
Baiken is a recurring character in the Guilty Gear series. The lore reveals that she is a wandering samurai of Japanese descent, whose home was raided by Gears during the Crusades. After witnessing the horrible deaths of her family and friends, she swore revenge on the Gear Maker.
The one-eyed warrior Baiken is known for the hidden weapons within the sleeve of her severed arm: a Japanese mace, a feudal cannon, a bladed fan, a chain rope, a hook, a claw, and a spear — collectively referred to as “Demon Tools.” She is also proficient in utilizing Ki and can use summoning magic.
It’s going to be very interesting to see her abilities is translated into the new game where some fighters have undergone major changes compared to their past selves.
THE UNFALTERING AWAKENED SAMURAI
A swordswoman of Japanese descent. She gets heated easily and is quick to start a fight. She’s the type to jump to action before thinking things through. She sticks to her principles, and doesn’t back down from a disagreement until it’s settled.
However, she can still acknowledge when the other party is in the right. Her right arm has an attached concealed weapon as well as an artificial arm modified for offense. She has sworn to take revenge on That Man after suffering a serious wound and losing her friends and family in the Crusades.
Her first and last appearance
Baiken’s reveal was made as part of the CEO fighting game festivities, which took place in Orlando, Florida over the course of the weekend. No gameplay footage for Baiken was revealed, but her fans (yer boy included) got all in a tizzy thanks to an exciting teaser trailer, which sees Baiken wandering stoically to battle, ready to get head-lopping on her hapless opponents. The buxom warrior strikes a pose, bringing the teaser to the end. Squeeeee!
Baiken’s last Guilty Gear appearance — in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev.2 — kept fans waiting a whopping three years for her arrival, so to her have her arrive within the first year, if not at launch, is somewhat of a blessing, at least. In the preceding months, die-hard fans have been able to play as the mighty fighter in SNK’s Samurai Shodown, which featured Baiken as a guest character — a role that obviously fit her like a glove. Still, it’s fantastic to see Baiken return home. I’m just too dang old to learn all of these bloody fighting games again.
Guilty Gear Fan Favourite Baiken
A move called Kabari allows her to bring opponents close to her, and then attach them to herself. It looks like there will be a lot of room for interesting combos while attached. Overall she looks to be quite a departure from her previous outing in Guilty Gear Xrd. But a lot of characters have changed in Strive, which has drawn some criticisms from fans of the older games.
Guilty Gear Strive’s season pass has release four characters so far, the last being Happy Chaos, and Baiken being the latest. Lap of the Kami is the first new stage, but another stage is set to be added with the last character. And the final character should be bringing some new story content too.
What does the trailer show?
The first season pass of the game will feature five new characters, five colors for each character, two stages, and an extra story. The trailer shows a battle-ready Baiken ready to slice off her opponents with her Katana. The stunning warrior strikes a pose marking the end of the teaser.
Notably, Baiken’s outfit has not changed or adapted much from Xrd’s aesthetics to Strive.
At the end of the Guilty Gear Strive trailer, Baiken mentions Delilah which is the name of Bedman’s sister. This means Delilah could be revealed in Strive later either as a fighter or background character.
Baiken is an aggressive, impulsive and anti-social person motivated solely by revenge, wanting to kill That Man. She has remained bitter over her family’s demise and intensely hates Gears. Despite this, she tolerates Anji Mito to a certain extent
It’s official: Baiken arrives in Guilty Gear Strive later this week, on the 28th January for season pass owners. … A returning fighter and fan-favourite, Baiken is Strive’s fourth DLC character, and she comes along with an incredibly pretty new stage called Lap of the Kami
Anji also had a small part in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 in Baiken’s story mode. Anji and Baiken are the only two characters of Japanese descent in the game’s main cast, so the two are very connected, story-wise.
Baiken has made guest appearances in the following games: Brave Frontier, Last Period, Chain Chronicle, Epic Seven, Crusaders Quest, #COMPASS, Elemental Battle, Code Shifter, Counter:Side, Samurai Shodown (2019), and The King of Fighters: All Stars
