In League of Legends lore, there are multiple couples – and not all of them end with a happily ever after. Some had to suffer a one-sided love affair, others were pulled apart. But today we’ve decided to take a look at the best couples from League of Legends lore.
To do so, we asked ourselves: Who are the best LoL couples? Which couples have the best dynamic as a pair? And of course, which champions would look amazing together?
The Best Couples In League of Legends
Ashe and Tryndamere
Ashe and Tryndamere started out as nothing more than a political marriage, but feelings have developed between the pair. What was once a marriage of convenience – Tryndamere looking to the Avarosans to strengthen his clan, while Ashe was looking to gain a bloodsworn – turned into true affection for one another as they spent more time together.
Ezreal and Lux
Okay, in canon, this couple ain’t my cup of tea. Ezreal chasing – you could almost say stalking – Lux while she states that she’s never even met the guy or had a conversation with him. But Riot has been pushing the Lux and Ezreal agenda quite heavily, bringing out matching skins in Wild Rift, and hinting at their relationship in the Porcelain trailer as well. We get it Riot, Lux and Ezreal are a thing. Now, will they ever actually talk in canon lore?

Rumble and Tristana
Sadly, this couple doesn’t get a lot of attention lore-wise, so not a lot of people know about it. In the Pentakill music video in 2017, we got a short romantic scene between the two, and you’ve probably already seen the note in the loading screen about Rumble naming his mech after his Yordle-girlfriend ‘Tristy’. Pretty cute, eh? In 2016, during the “Mechs vs. Minions” mission, we also got a clearer picture of the couple thanks to some dialogue in which Tristana kisses Rumble and states that she’s happy he’s doing well.
Garen and Katarina
This love story isn’t just a made-up fanfic at this point. Multiple in-game voice lines point at the blossoming romance between the two. In a cinematic which was never officially published, we see the Noxian Katarina as a prisoner of the Demacian Garen. She can free herself, but due to the time spent together, she has developed feelings for him and saves Garen from a monster – sounds a lot like Stockholm syndrom to me, but ok. Then she runs away, knowing that their love cannot come to fruition due to the war between Noxus and Demacia.
But their love story doesn’t end there, even Lux wants this couple to happen and when she encounters Kat in-game, she wishes for them to be a couple.
Oh, and of course, friendly river king Tahm Kench is the ultimate wingman with his in-game voice lines.
Diana and Leona
This is the friends to lovers to enemies and back to lovers trope we’ve needed in League of Legends all along. Diana and Leona grew up together, got along well, became friends. Even though Diana feels a pull towards the moon and doesn’t fit in with the Solari’s faith, she continues to make an effort for Leona.
Leona, even though she also feels an attraction towards Diana, doesn’t want to give up her Solari faith. It’s a tug-of-war of emotions for the two, as Diana eventually becomes part of the Lunari. A love-hate relationship brews between the pair, but Diana holds out hope to one day unite the Solari and Lunari and to be together with Leona once more.
Lucian and Senna
Lucian met Senna when she brought the bitter news of his father’s passing – who was also her mentor. Since Lucian had always wanted to follow in his fathers’ footsteps, he decided to join Senna and fight alongside her. Through their adventures together, the pair developed feelings for one another. This love was pulled apart when Senna’s soul fell into the clutches of Thresh – leaving behind her empty shell of a body. Lucian was broken and wandered the world searching for a way to find Thresh and get Senna back. The love between Lucian and Senna is a bind that cannot be broken, and eventually, the two found one another again.
Xayah and Rakan
This is the ride-or-die couple in the bot lane. The pair were released together by Riot Games because they just can’t be apart for more than a few seconds. Rakan can’t exist on Summoner’s Rift without mentioning Xayah at least once. Xayah, on the other hand, is a bit more extreme with her love, stating that she will destroy the world if anything were to ever happen to Rakan. Obsessive? Maybe, but they’re an extremely fun duo to play in the bot lane and have an incredible love lore in League of Legends.
LoL Lore: The Story of Ashe, The Frost Archer
Ashe is one of the most well-known champions in League of Legends. She is an ADC that never seems to go out of style on Summoner’s Rift and is one of the starter champions available to new players, making her one of the most popular as well.
But who is Ashe according to her champion lore? What brought her to fight on Summoner’s Rift? Let’s take a look at Ashe’s lore and where she came from.
Who is Ashe According to LoL Lore?
Ashe was the daughter of Grena, the matriarchal chieftain of a northern tribe from the Freljord. She was an Iceborn with the ability to wield True Ice and most of her clansmen believed Ashe to follow in her mother’s footsteps to become their next leader, though this wasn’t what Ashe had hoped for herself.
As she grew up she befriended Sejuani, another Iceborn girl from a sister tribe. The two grew up together, forging a deep friendship. Though in their teen years, they were ripped from one another after Grena offended Sejuani’s grandmother and the friendship between the tribes ended.

Grena, growing older each day, made it her life mission to find the “Throne of Avarosa”. She believed that finding this treasure would bring her tribe to greatness. The search for these riches though was dangerous ,and Grena forced her tribe into difficult confrontations constantly.

Eventually, during a dangerous and unnecessary raid, Grena died, and according to the champion lore, leaving Ashe on the run while most of their tribe was wiped out in retaliation to the raid. Ashe – not knowing where to go – fled to a deserted glacier where the tomb of Avarosa supposedly stood.
There, Ashe found her magical bow of True Ice.
Ashe used the bow to exact revenge upon the tribe that killed her mother before turning west. As she wandered the Freljord, she made it her mission to protect the smaller tribes scattered throughout. She adopted the tribes to form her own.
We have some more LoL Lore: Welcome to Runeterra
As stories of Ashe spread, many believed her to be the reincarnation of Avarosa herself, here to unite the Freljord once more. Ashe used these stories to her advantage, gaining allies of larger and stronger tribes down south as well.

But as she gained more alliances, she also realized what a dangerous political game she was playing. She had to keep all allies from turning on one another – thus, she had to make hard decisions to keep conflict from arising.

Now Ashe stands as the leader of a fragile Freljordian coalition. The unity rests upon shaky alliances and throughout it all, Ashe has to pretend to believe that she is Avarosa, to keep the ruse afloat.
Are Ashe and Tryndamere Married According to LoL Lore?
Ashe and Tryndamere are Bloodsworn, which refers to a political marriage. Since Ashe is a Warmother – as Freljordian tribal leaders are known – she is expected to take a husband. According to her champion Lore, she couldn’t take any of the men of the large tribes she’d allied with due to the tension between them all.
Therefore, Ashe decided to wed Tryndamere, who was from a small mountain tribe. He would be her first and only Bloodsworn and eventually, the two would also be attracted to one another. What had started off as a political marriage, blossomed into something more.
Are Ashe and Sejuani Sisters According to LoL Lore?
According to the LoL Lore Ashe and Sejuani are not sisters. The two grew up close since their Freljordian tribes were initially sister tribes, but eventually grew apart after relations soured between the tribes. Both cherished their friendship deeply and at one point and time, Sejuani was Ashe’s closest confidant.
Is Ashe a Queen According to Her Champion Lore?
Ashe is not a queen, but a Warmother. She is the leader of her tribe. Her mother was also the chieftain of her tribe beforehand, hoping for Ashe to follow in her footsteps. At first, Ashe didn’t want to become a chief herself, but after her mother’s death, she went west, forming her own tribe.
In League of Legends lore, there are multiple couples – and not all of them end with a happily ever after. Some had to suffer a one-sided love affair, others were pulled apart.
Riot games have never confirmed their relationship, and it’s safest to assume that no, they are not dating. But… Those who pay extra attention while playing League of Legends can notice the special interactions between Lux and Ezreal.
The name of Riot’s co-founder Marc ‘Tryndamere’ Merrill’s wife is Ashley.
However, if you see Zoe’s interaction with Lux, you can clearly tell that only Ezreal has a crush on Lux. This is such a sad love story between these three. Back to Lux and Ezreal, even with the new card game (Legends of Runeterra), Ezreal’s interaction shows that he really likes Lux.
