Has the Wordle fad peaked?
Despite all the Wordle love, Levien’s remarks also offered a small hint that the Times doesn’t necessarily expect the game to remain quite as strong of a draw going forward. Levien said the Times is “moving swiftly to leverage [Wordle’s] massive audience to introduce Wordle players to our other games, recognizing that its audience may moderate over time.”

Wordle Game is not (yet) as big as its social media hype might suggest.
According to a survey conducted by Morning Consult, the game is not (yet) as big as its social media hype might suggest.
While its growth from nothing to more than a million daily players is impressive, it cannot compare itself to casual classics such as Words with Friends or Candy Crush yet. The survey conducted between January 12 and 14 finds that 14 percent of U.S. adults play Wordle, compared to 46 percent who play Words with Friends and 52 percent who play Candy Crush at least occasionally.
As the following chart shows, all games’ audiences share a similar age structure, where usage is most widespread among 35- to 44-year-olds. Wordle trails its competitors in each age group but considering its current buzz, it seems like sky is the limit for the social media darling.
Wordle Answer Search
The jig is up — we know you’re cheating on your daily Wordle.
Or, at least, it would certainly appear that a growing number of people have been looking online for answers to the popular five-letter word guessing game — possibly to avoid putting a stop to a winning streak.
That’s according to a recent study by Wordfinderx, a reference website for word games like Wordle and Scrabble, which used Google Trends data to determine that Google searches for the answer to Wordle’s daily puzzle have nearly tripled ever since The New York Times acquired Wordle in January.
The study found that searches for Feb. 15′s “AROMA” and Feb. 19′s “SWILL” daily Wordle solutions reached a 100 out of 100 on Google’s search popularity scale, which compares search results on a topic and then rates them on a scale of 0 to 100 “based on a topic’s proportion to all searches on all topics,” according to Google.
In comparison, Jan. 4′s “SIEGE” only reached a 1 on the same scale, while searches for the daily Wordle solution never topped 60 on Google’s scale prior to The New York Times’ purchase of the game on Jan. 31.
According to most recent data, Wordle has now reached the halfway mark on its descent from the game’s February peak. From Feb. 19 to July 2, the national popularity of the term “Wordle” has been on a steady decline, dropping by 51% in just five months.
Only 90 people were playing it as of November 1st, 2021. But in two months, Wordle had grown to 300,000 users. Today, it has millions of players.
They lead to success for just over 96% of target words with an average game length of 3.68 rounds, and 86% of games are completed within 4 rounds.
But it’s super popular: Over 300,000 people play it daily, according to The New York Times.
A score of three is solidly above average, and it is certainly nothing to frown at. Especially with harder words such as “cynic,” “vivid,” or “swill,” getting it in three is very good. Three takes skill, finesse, and intellect.
More than 96 percent of games are wins, and more than half of them are solved in four or fewer guesses.
2 guesses (in total) translates to extraordinary in the Wordle wordle, and 1 means nothing but a thunderbolt of blind luck (or unflinching cheating skills). If you belong to the category of 4 or 5 guesses, you are an average player, maybe not extraordinary, but you are doing very well in the game.
