How BTS Got their Name
BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, chose their name as a response to criticisms of young people. The original name of Bulletproof Boy Scouts translates as “resistant to bullets,” but the members felt that younger people weren’t getting enough credit for being thoughtful and smart enough to handle certain things. The name BTS also stands for “Beyond the Scene,” representing the group’s desire to go beyond the limitations of the music industry and connect with people around the world.
According to Kim Namjoon, also known as RM, the leader of the group, the members of BTS came together with a common dream to write, dance, and produce music that reflects their musical backgrounds as well as their life values of acceptance, vulnerability, and being successful. They have pushed each other to be the best they can be and have become as close as brothers.
It’s also been reported that the members of BTS live together, at least some of the time, and that Jin is known for doing the cooking. This living arrangement has helped to strengthen their bond as a group and allowed them to work more closely together on their music and other projects.

What BTS Stands for
BTS initially debuted under the name Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts. However, as part of its new identity in 2017, the group confirmed that BTS was also an acronym for Beyond The Scene. This name change reflected the group’s desire to go beyond the limitations of the music industry and connect with people around the world. In Japan, the group is known as Bōdan Shōnendan, which has a very similar translation to its original Korean name.
