NLE Choppa, whose birth name is Bryson Lashun Potts, was born on November 1, 2002, to a Jamaican mother and an African American father. He grew up in the Parkway Village area of Southeast Memphis, Tennessee, and attended Cordova High School, where he played basketball.

Da’Shun, the son of NLE Choppa and Marissa Da’Nae, will be his first child with her and his second child overall. He previously had a daughter with his ex-girlfriend Mariah last year.
Throughout 2019, NLE Choppa released several singles, including “Capo”, “Birdboy”, and “Blocc Is Hot”, the latter of which was a tribute to Lil Wayne. He made his music festival debut at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis in May, and released the single “Free YoungBoy” in June, which was the first release from his own label No Love Entertainment, launched in partnership with Warner Records. “Camelot”, released in September, became his second top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. He then released his debut EP titled “Cottonwood” in December, featuring previously released singles “Side” and “Shotta Flow”, as well as a collaboration with Meek Mill. A short film accompanying the EP was also released on the same day.
In early 2020, NLE Choppa was set to release his debut studio album, “Top Shotta”. He released several singles leading up to the album’s release, including “Walk Em Down” featuring Roddy Ricch, which was released in March 2020. In June 2020, he released “Shotta Flow 5”, the fourth sequel to his breakout single “Shotta Flow”. The album’s final single, “Narrow Road” featuring Lil Baby, was released in July 2020.
“Top Shotta” was released on August 7, 2020, and debuted in the top ten of the US Billboard 200 chart. The album features collaborations with major artists like Roddy Ricch and Lil Baby, and showcases NLE Choppa’s growth as an artist. He was also included in XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class in August 2020.
In September 2020, NLE Choppa made a vow to stop rapping about violence and instead focus on spreading positivity and waking people up. In October, he announced his second mixtape, “From Dark to Light”, which was released on November 1, 2020, on his birthday. The mixtape’s cover art features NLE Choppa sitting outside with butterflies and a rainbow, symbolizing his new spiritual journey. The music video for “Narrow Road” featuring Lil Baby was released in October and has over 30 million views on YouTube.
In 2021, NLE Choppa teased the release of “Shotta Flow 6” and “Walk Em Down 2” featuring Lil Durk through a tweet in February. In January 2022, he released his fourth mixtape, “Me vs. Me”, which includes 16 tracks and features collaborations with Young Thug, Polo G, G Herbo, and Moneybagg Yo. The mixtape was released on January 28, 2022, along with the music video for “Shotta Flow 6”, which is the seventh single from the mixtape and the sixth installment in the “Shotta Flow” series.
