Wondering where to find The Sideways in Fortnite?
fortnite complete a sideways encounter : Season 8 has begun, and the alien threat is no more – but instead, we’re facing the wrath of powerful, malicious cubes that have fallen from the Mothership to the island, wreaking havoc in their wake.
These cubes are spreading corruption and chaos across the map, and they’re also creating portals to The Sideways, an alternate reality full of monsters that swarm you as soon as you enter, along the lines of the Upside Down from Stranger Things.
You’re unable to build inside The Sideways, and there’s a particularly low level of gravity there, too. Despite these anomalies, there’s plenty of good reasons to enter The Sideways – you can find exclusive weapons and crafting parts here, which you can use to make yourself more powerful.
how to find a sideways encounter ?
The first of Torin’s punchcard quests requires you to enter The Sideways, and subsequent quests involve completing tasks in the alternate dimension once you’re there, including completing a Sideways encounter. Here’s everything you need to know about entering The Sideways, and The Sideways weapons you can obtain.
How to complete a Sideways encounter
To complete an entire Sideways encounter, you must defeat all waves in a Sideways Anomaly. If you don’t defeat enough enemies, the Anomaly closes on you, so it takes a lot of firepower to get through each wave in time. Make sure you fully gear up before entering and bring along teammates to help you if you can.
While inside the Sideways Anomaly, you gain a bar at the top of your screen with three reward markers at different intervals. Defeat as many foes as you can in this time to fill up the bar all the way, and complete the sideways encounter.
How to enter The Sideways in Fortnite ?
There are two ways you can enter The Sideways – via portals that open up Sideways Anomalies, and through a bubble that converts part of the map into a Sideways Zone.
Sideways Anomalies
Sideways Anomalies can be accessed via portals – check your map for purple bursts of light that look like rifts.
fortnite sideways encounter locations
They are scattered across the island in different locations each match.
fortnite sideways location : Upon entering one of these portals, you open up a temporary Sideways Anomaly, and a purple-and-orange bubble appears around you. Inside the Anomalies, you can find chests and Cube Monsters, which drop Cube Monster parts.
Sideways Zones
There is one Sideways Zone per match, and they’re hard to miss – they’re large purple-and-orange bubbles that swirl mysteriously as you approach. Inside the Sideways Zone, you can use glowing orange cracks in the ground to propel yourself around while searching for glowing purple chests containing Sideways weapons.
Sideways weapons
The new Sideways weapons in Fortnite are:
-
Sideways rifle
-
Sideways minigun
These guns slowly generate heat, dealing bonus damage as they get closer to overheating. However, once they overheat, you won’t be able to fire it for a while, so do be careful. Sideways weapons can be upgraded to higher rarities using Cube Monster parts in the Fortnite crafting tab.
That’s everything you need to know about The Sideways in Fortnite – while you’re exploring everything Season 8 has to offer, check our Fortnite NPC locations guide to track down everyone’s punchcard quests. The alien Fortnite Sideways realm has made its way onto the Island thanks to the crash-landing cubes from the destroyed alien Mothership.
where to find a sideways encounter fortnite ?
Their corruption has spread to various POIs across the Island and is creating gateways to the Sideways. Currently, Sideways Anomalies have been disabled due to an issue. Inside this realm, you’ll be able to jump much higher than usual while in this alien dimension, but you won’t be able to use your building tools to create any structures, so you’ll have to rely on your movement and aim to take down the competition. You’ll also find cube monsters to destroy and new Sideways weapons to loot and help you bag a Victory Royale in Fortnite Season 8. This is how you can enter the Sideways in Fortnite to defeat cube monsters.
Fortnite Sideways Zones
There are two ways to access the Sideways and all its goodies in Fortnite. The first is to find the Sideways Zone – a POI that has been taken over by a giant Sideways dome. This is marked clearly on your map as a purple and orange circle on top of a POI. Look out for it when you’re on the Battle bus and you can dive down to it at the start of a match. The location of this zone changes each match, but it will stay active and in the place for the entirety of a match, so watch out if the zone is in the storm.
As with any Sideways location, you’ll have improved jumping but cannot build while inside this dome. Tall, rocky cube monsters will also spawn endlessly in this dome and will hunt you down. If you defeat them, they’ll drop ammo and sometimes cube monster parts, which can be used to upgrade your Sideways weapons, so make sure you pick up any you see. To get the new Sideways Rifle and Sideways Minigun, you’ll need to loot Sideways chests found within the zone. These chests are dark purple and make a slightly different noise compared to regular chests, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for them to bag some new loot.
Fortnite Sideways Anomalies
The other way to get into the Sideways in Fortnite is through Sideways Anomalies. These anomalies take the form of small, purple rifts that are scattered across the Island. They’ll be visible on your map as a little, dark-purple rift icon. Once you’ve found a rift, simply walk up to it and it’ll expand into a Sideways dome exactly like the Sideways Zone. Inside you’ll be able to find Sideways chests which can give you some of the new Sideways weapons too.
However, anomalies differ from zones in that an anomaly can be collapsed by defeating waves of cube monsters. When you enter an anomaly, you’ll see a progress bar split into three segments at the top of your screen which will fill up with each cube monster kill you get. Filling the bar will cause the anomaly to collapse and it’ll spit out a few loot items, maybe even a legendary-rarity Sideways Rifle. Unlike Sideways Zones, these anomalies are temporary, and if you take too long to defeat the cube monsters, the anomaly will close, and the loot you get is based on how many monsters you were able to defeat. Bosses can also spawn in anomalies but you don’t have to kill them to complete the encounter.
Fortnite Sideways weapons
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 has added several new weapons to the loot pool, two of which are the new Sideways weapons, the Sideways Rifle and the Sideways Minigun. Both weapon improve the hotter they get, but try to avoid overheating them. You can only find these weapons in Sideways chests found in Sideways Zones or Anomalies. Defeating cube monsters will sometimes cause them to drop cube monster parts which can be used to upgrade your Sideways weapons, so make sure you pick any up after you’ve slain some monsters.
Fortnite Sideways cube monsters
Cube monsters appear in both Sideways Zones and Anomalies, and they can pose a serious threat if they surround you. Defeating them will instantly grant you a small chunk of shield energy, which varies depending on the type of monster you defeat, with the larger brutes proving more shield.
Here are all the cube monster types you can find in the Sideways:
- Fiend
- Ranged Fiend
- Poison Fiend
- Elite Fiend
- Brute
- Exploding Brute
- Elite Brute
What Is a Sideways Encounter in ‘Fortnite’ Season 8?
Fortnite Season 8 has introduced several mechanics and systems that players will have to familiarize themselves with if they hope to complete all their punchcards.
what is a sideways encounter in fortnite ?
sideways anomaly fortnite : “Sideways encounters” are among the new additions and are essential parts of certain questlines in the battle royale. Here is everything you need to know about these events and how to complete them.
What Is the Sideways in ‘Fortnite’ Season 8?
how to complete a sideways encounter fortnite ?
Many players will first come across Sideways encounters by accident.
While you are exploring Fortnite Island, you will naturally be drawn towards the giant orange spheres that have enveloped certain points of interest around the map. If you are brave enough to head through one of these pulsating membranes, you will enter an alternate dimension known as “the Sideways.”
What Are ‘Sideways Events’ in ‘Fortnite’ Season 8?
The first time that you will see the words “Sideways encounter” in Fortnite will likely be when you are trying to tick off the various quests in Torin’s punchcard.
The fifth mission associated with this new character (who can be found near the Aftermath point of interest on the map) tasks you with completing a Sideways encounter but does not give you any direction beyond that.
Luckily, it is a straightforward assignment once you understand the basic principle. In a nutshell, you need to visit the Sideways dimension during an online match and withstand the horde of monsters that are triggered by your arrival. It might seem like there is an endless wave of creatures to deal with, but there are only a finite number and you can defeat them all.
The Sideways monsters are formidable opponents, though, and you will also have to contend with rival players taking pot-shots at you while you are distracted.
Fortnite Sideways Zones Versus Anomalies
As we broke down in our Season 8 map changes guide, the biggest differences are the creation of Sideways Anomalies and Sideways Zones. You’ll easily spot the Zones in your travels because they’re the enormous opaque orange bubbles that flare up in randomized POIs with every match. These Zones stay put all game long and players can enter and exit them as they desire. Think of Sideways Zones as places where this monster-filled dimension spills into the island’s native dimension.
Anomalies, on the other hand, are portals to The Sideways. This is where loopers can instead travel to The Sideways. In an Anomaly, there is a defined beginning (when you enter) and end (when you defeat the waves of enemies). You can track your progress with the progress bar at the top of your screen that appears during every Anomaly encounter.

Sadly, Anomalies were deactivated just a few hours into Fortnite Season 8 due to unnamed issues the team at Epic was having.
complete a sideways encounter not working
Thus, some Party Quests, including several of Torin’s quests and Dark Jonesy’s final quest, can’t be completed right now and will be unobtainable until Anomalies return to the game.
Epic Games has not mentioned a timetable for a fix just yet, but usually these things are resolved in just a few days at most. A major seasonal highlight such as this will surely be a priority, and we’ll update this post when Anomalies return to the game.
In the meantime, get caught up with everything else you need to know about Fortnite Season 8, including the Fortnite Season 8 battle pass characters and the Fortnite Season 8 new weapons.
We’re in for another eventful season.
