Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer
Tom Holland says Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man web-shooters “don’t make sense”
Tom Holland, star of Spider-Man: No Way Home, has shared some opinions on Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movie, The Amazing Spider-Man.
In the book, The Moviemaking Magic of Marvel Studios: Spider-Man, Holland says that the web-shooter technology that we see in Garfield’s Spidey film “doesn’t really make sense”.
Over the years, we have seen three different versions of Peter Parker take to the big screen, and each variation has their own unique approach to web-slinging. Sam Raimi’s 2000s movie starring Tobey Maguire had the hero shoot webs organically out of his body. In The Amazing Spider-Man, Garfield’s Peter created his own homebrew web-shooters. In the latest iteration of the beloved superhero, Holland also makes his own, clunkier looking, web-shooting gear – which Tony Stark later refines.
Tom Holland is currently gearing up for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is set to be a multiverse adventure across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the action movie on its way, the star has opened up about his thoughts regarding some of his fellow Spidey alumni. Coming via The Direct, Holland is quoted discussing how he finds the small size of Garfield’s homemade technology a bit baffling.
“The old-school web-shooters are so cool. They’re really big and chunky, they’re really mechanical, and if you press the button, everything moves… What I love about his original web-shooters is they’re as real as they could be,” Holland explained. “I know that’s like impossible to make a thing that shoots web out of your hand, but the one thing with [the web-shooters in] Andrew [Garfield]’s movie is that they were so small and so compact, it didn’t really make much sense to me. But this is a big chunky thing that a kid would make in his room.”
It is exciting to think about Holland and Garfield having a web off, and who knows, we may get a chance to see a Peter Parker tech showdown in Spider-man: No Way Home. The new trailer for the film revealed Doctor Strange tampering with the fabric of space and time to wipe everyone’s memories of Peter’s secret identity – revealed in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Sorcerer Supreme’s spell goes a bit wonky, and villains from the past Spider-Man franchises appear, such as Toby Maguire’s foe Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina).

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ First-Day Global Trailer Views Smash ‘Avengers: Endgame’s All-Time Record
Sony is guaranteed to have a huge hit on its hands with Spider-Man: No Way Home this coming December.
Like, really huge.
After dropping the teaser at CinemaCon and on social media Monday night, the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home racked up an-all time viewership record of 355.5 million global views in its first 24 hours, blowing away the previous record holder, Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, which drove 289M views. Simply, wow.
No Way Home‘s draw is more than double that of the second trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hit 135M views at the 24-hour mark. That movie, released in 2019, repped Sony’s largest-grossing title in the studio’s history with $1.131 billion. The pic opened across six days, racking up $185M.
All 5 (or 6) villains teased in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer
Hello Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, The Lizard… and a sinister sixth?
The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer dropped on Monday, and so did everyone’s respective jaws. We got answers, but mainly more questions, regarding what the hell’s going on in Tom Holland’s third Marvel-Sony web-slinging adventure.
Here’s one takeaway: Villains Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, The Lizard and Sandman are all either pictured in the trailer or heavily hinted to be making an appearance in the movie. What we now want to know is: Is this rogues’ gallery of villains teeing up the Sinister Six?
Sony announced a Sinister Six team-up of Spidey’s greatest villains all the way back in 2013, months before The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Thanks to the disappointing box office return of the Andrew Garfield sequel, plans for the spinoff were put on ice.
Maybe until now. Maybe, possibly, there’s a sixth villain who wasn’t teased in the trailer. Time to speculate below.
1. Doctor Octopus
Aka Doc Ock. Yes, Alfred Molina is confirmed to be back as Otto Octavius, who first appeared in 2004’s Spider-Man 2. He was killed after sacrificing himself to destroy his malfunctioning nuclear experiment. Lived a villain, died a hero, as some would say. This version, who appears clearly at the end of the trailer, looks like he’s still on a questionable path.
2. Green Goblin
While Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, who first appeared in 2002’s Spider-Man, doesn’t appear on screen in the trailer, it’s pretty clear he’ll be in the movie. Dafoe’s maniacal Green Goblin laugh can be heard, along with glimpses of his recognizable Pumpkin Bombs. The Green Goblin died at the end of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, but later appeared across his trilogy in ghost or memory form. Looks like he’s back, back again.
3. Electro
How do we know Jamie Foxx’s Electro is back? Bolts of electricity. The trailer shows what could be The Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain’s signature bolts exploding police cars. Spidey, in his black-and-gold suit, is shown dodging them in another shot. Andrew Garfield’s Spidey defeats Electro by overloading his body with energy at the end of the 2014 flick. Foxx all but confirmed his return, until deleting his premature social media posts regarding the new movie.
4. Sandman
This one’s a little more tenuous. In the trailer, one of Electro’s lightning storms is filled with plumes of sand and dirt. Sandman? Thomas Hayden Church’s villain survived 2007’s Spider-Man 3, after Peter forgave the escaped criminal. Maybe he’s actually on Peter’s side here, protecting him from Electro’s bolts.
5. The Lizard
Finally, The Lizard. Rhys Ifans’ villain appeared in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. At about 2 and a half minutes into the trailer, a dark figure can be seen looming over Peter. The outline of that figure fits The Lizard’s. The mad scientist, who tried to turn all humans into lizard hybrids, was sent to jail after Peter returned him to his human form.
(6?) Rhino/Vulture/Shocker/Scorpion
Paul Giamatti might be returning to play Rhino in the MCU, but the actor hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with confirmation. He first appeared as the Rhino, aka Aleksei Sytsevich, in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite Andrew Garfield. The plan was to have Giamatti return for an increased role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but the mixed reception to the Garfield sequel saw the latter canned. Other candidates who could round out the band: Vulture (Michael Keaton), Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine) and Scorpion (Michael Mando), who’re all still alive.
Tom Holland Reacts To Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Breaking Records
Tom Holland reacts to the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer breaking viewing records and promises much more craziness to come in the final film.
Tom Holland has reacted to the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer smashing viewing records, promising much more to come in the final film. The film is one of the most highly anticipated entries in the MCU to date, largely because of its inclusion of past Spider-Man movie characters like Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. The trailer was viewed 355.5 million times in its first 24 hours online, breaking the record previously held by Avengers: Endgame by over 60 million views.
It’s safe to say that No Way Home has more excitement built up around it than any MCU film or show since Endgame. So far, most of Phase 4 has consisted of previously established characters getting their first starring roles, like in WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and Black Widow. The MCU’s next two films, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals, will both focus on entirely new characters. That makes No Way Home the first entry in a pre-established MCU subseries in Phase 4.
Even with that, and with all the exciting rumors about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire returning as their versions of Spider-Man, the response to the No Way Home Trailer has been shocking. Holland himself has now responded to the trailer’s record-breaking success with a post on Instagram, in which he shared a screenshot of a Variety article discussing the trailer’s popularity. In the caption, Holland promised that “It only gets crazier.” Check out Holland’s reaction below:
Holland’s promise of much more to come in Spider-Man: No Way Home is exciting, and it also seems bound to be true given how few of the rumors surrounding the film were actually confirmed by the trailer. Molina’s Doc Ock was shown, and Dafoe’s Green Goblin was basically confirmed, though the actor himself didn’t appear. Some eagle-eyed fans have pointed out shots that could contain Lizard, Sandman, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Jamie Foxx’s Electro, but it’s hard to say much for sure based on the footage alone.
Of course, the biggest hanging question is whether or not Maguire and Garfield will actually return – a move that would create a live-action version of the beloved “Spider-Verse” storyline. It’s possible that Disney won’t confirm their presence until the film actually comes out, or they could be saving them for a later trailer. Either way, No Way Home is setting itself up to be one of the MCU’s biggest movies yet, and its record breaking might not stop with the first trailer – especially if Holland’s promise of more craziness turns out to be true.

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
It is intended to be the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and the 27th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The film was directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J. B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx.
In the film, Parker seeks out the help of Stephen Strange to help make his identity as Spider-Man a secret again, leading to a dangerous alternative.
A third MCU Spider-Man film was intended as early as 2017, during production on Homecoming. By August 2019, negotiations between Sony and Marvel Studios to alter their deal—in which they produce the Spider-Man films together—ended with Marvel Studios leaving the project. However, a negative fan reaction led to a new deal between the two companies a month later. Watts, McKenna, Sommers, and Holland were set to return at that time. Filming began in October 2020 in New York City, before moving to Atlanta later that month. During filming, Foxx and Molina were revealed to be appearing in the film, reprising characters from past Spider-Man films. The title was revealed in February 2021, before filming wrapped at the end of March.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 17, 2021, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
A fourth Spider-Man film is in development.
