Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS with 9000rpm GT3 heart. Does 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds while the top speed stands at 315 kmph.

2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is here: Does 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds!

The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS sheds veil, and the company claims that the 718 range flagship can show 100 kmph from a standstill in only 3.4 seconds, while the top speed stands at 315 kmph.

After successfully launching the Taycan EV and Macan facelift in the Indian market, Porsche has now taken the cover off the new 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

Interestingly, it takes the spot in the 718 range as the flagship offering.

the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is the most exciting and the fastest model in the 718 line-up.

During the course of development, Porsche has scooped out a lot of weight. The GT4 RS sports a carbon-fibre bonnet, along with lightweight construction for the rear windscreen. Furthermore, the front wings and a slew of other plastic parts are now reinforced with carbon fibre.

The door handles on the inside are replaced with fabric pull straps as well. As a result, the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 353 Hp per tonne. For better aerodynamics, a 911 RSR GT racer-inspired rear wing is put to use.

Besides, the rear windows have made space for air intakes to help the engine breathe better. The drop in ride height is a massive 30 mm when compared to the regular Cayman. Overall, the company has managed to achieve a 30 per cent increment in downforce.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS and GT4 RS Clubsport Debut

Porsche Debuts Track-Ready 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS, GT4 RS Clubsport

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS amps up the existing 718 Cayman GT4 formula, taking it to the edge without sacrificing its road-going capability.

Using a naturally aspirated (non-turbo) flat-six engine sourced from the 911 GT3 Cup car, the GT4 RS puts out 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, which boosts output by 79 horsepower and 14 pound-feet over the 718 GT4.

The 718 GT4 RS uses air intakes fitted behind the rear side windows to improve airflow and to supplement the Cayman’s signature side intakes in the rear quarter panels. A seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission is standard, with no stick-shift offered. Paddle shifters give the driver direct access to the gear when desired, or they can use the center console shift lever.

2023 Porsche 718 GT4 Clubsport

The GT4 RS Clubsport drops the mild pretense of practicality and delivers a track-ready car from the factory qualified for use in SRO racing series worldwide. It is a homologated variant, meaning the SRO Motorsports Group has approved it for races under its aegis.

GT4 RS Clubsport owners can compete with other privateers and even with factory teams in their cars if they have the resources, skills and desire.

Like the GT4 RS, the Clubsport uses a flat-six engine sourced from the 911 GT3 Cup race car, this one tuned to produce 500 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. It also uses a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Maximum power comes at 8,300 rpm, and redline is at 9,000 rpm.

Additional enhancements to the Clubsport over the RS include a welded-in roll cage, an adjustable Recaro racing seat, six-point harnesses, a fire extinguisher system and a built-in air jack system with three jacks. In other words, the Clubsport is ready to race. Porsche has offered a Cayman GT4 Clubsport model since 2016.

The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport debuted in 2019, ending up with a run of 500 units. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport picks up where the GT4 left off.

Indeed, the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport will compete in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the SRO GT4 America and GT America series in 2022. The GT4 RS Clubsport starts at $229,000 and will be sold through Porsche Motorsport North America in the U.S.

For years people have been postulating that the reason Porsche has not fitted large engines to its Cayman range is that it will start to steal sales from the ever-green 911. Now that a pukka RS motor has been mounted midships in the little coupe we are about to see if those guesses were correct.

The naturally aspirated engine revs up to dizzying 9000 r/min. Power in the road car is quoted as 368kW with 450Nm of maximum torque. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS will be offered exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK). Drivers can cog-swap using steering wheel mounted paddles or a newly designed shift lever in the center console.

In the 718 Cayman GT4 RS drivers can expect shorter gearing than in a PDK-equipped Cayman GT4, which helps improve acceleration.

Porsche says the 718 Cayman GT4 RS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is quoted as 315km/h. The vehicle will be priced at R2 507 000 in South Africa.

Part of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS’s mass-saving measures include front fenders and bonnet that are made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The rear window is made of lightweight glass. Lightweight door panels with fabric door opening loops and storage nets round off the model-specific diet.

If you read the above and, like us, thought: That’d make the basis of a great racecar, then rest assured Porsche had the same thought process as it simultaneously debuted the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

The homologated 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is track-ready from the factory and can be used in SRO racing series around the world without further modifications.

2022 Porsche 911 GT3

With an exclusive naturally aspirated engine and race car-inspired components, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 is optimized for driver engagement and track-day glory.

Porsche enhances its most visceral 911 variant with a control-arm front suspension—the first on a 911 road car—and an unusual rear wing that’s mounted at the top instead of the bottom. The GT3 is also the only 911 that’s not turbocharged, and the responsive nature and immersive sounds of its 502-hp 4.0-liter flat-six qualify as inspirational. The specialness of the rear-mounted mill is further realized by the telepathic seven-speed PDK automatic transmission or the rewarding six-speed manual. Thanks to a unique suspension setup and track-focused tire options, the 2022 911 GT3 has a surprisingly supple, albeit firm, ride and incredible steering feel that are just a few of the reasons it’s so exhilarating to drive.

What’s New for Porsche 911 GT3 2022?

For 2022, the 911 GT3 is back! We’ve followed its return for the 992-generation from the reveal of the prototype version to Porsche’s deluge of official details. An even racier GT3 RS is also surely in the works.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

  • GT3 : $162,450
  • GT3 Touring : $163,450
  • GT3 RS : $200,000 (est)

As with the last generation, Porsche will eventually offer three slightly different versions of the GT3, starting with the standard car that is out now, an even more track-oriented RS model, and a Touring variant the tones down the racy look by nixing the big rear wing.

This time the GT3 Touring will be available with both transmissions instead of just the manual gearbox when it goes on sale early next year. We’d recommend taking advantage of the Porsche Experience Center. For $395 (plus a $50 damage waiver fee), you will be receive coaching and track time in your new Porsche at either the Atlanta or Los Angeles location. If you don’t live in those areas, you can travel and book time in one of Porsche’s vehicles instead. Prices for those experiences range from as low as $400 to as high as $900 depending on location and model.

Porsche 911 GT3 Engine, Transmission, and Performance

At the tail end of the 911 GT3 is a familiar naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that makes 502 horsepower. The engine is essentially identical to the one that powered the last 911 Speedster we tested, which spun to 9000 rpm and sung a hypnotic tune.

The new GT3 offers both a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (a.k.a. PDK) or a six-speed manual. The PDK-equipped example we drove showcased the automatic’s intuitive behavior as well as the engine’s spirited responses and intoxicating soundtrack. The most notable performance upgrade on the GT3 is its control-arm front suspension, which is inspired by the racecar version and is a first for a production 911. Combine that with standard adaptive dampers and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2–or stickier Cup R–tires and the coupe’s chassis provides tremendous cornering grip and unfiltered feedback. While the ride is undeniably firm, it’s never punishing, and the electrically assisted steering is so divine that it deserves anointment as the best in the business.

Period. Stopping the purist’s Porsche are massive binders that include a carbon-ceramic option that provides heroic braking power, easy modulation, and resists fade at the track.

2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS has the heart of the 911 GT3

After 16 years Porsche is finally giving its mid-engined Cayman sports car the RS treatment, and it’s a banger. The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS just made its debut Tuesday night ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show, and it packs the 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the Porsche 911 GT3.

The Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance homologation model of the Porsche 911 sports car.

It is a line of high-performance models, which began with the 1973 911 Carrera RS. The GT3 has had a successful racing career in the one-make national and regional Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge series, as well as the international Porsche Supercup supporting the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

2022 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Makes 493 HP, Will Sound Fantastic

Porsche takes its mid-engined sports car to the extreme with the 911 GT3’s incredible 4.0-liter six-cylinder, revised suspension, and advanced aerodynamics.

  • Porsche rolled out the RS version of the Porsche 718 Cayman at the Los Angeles auto show tonight, revealing that it has the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the 911 GT3.
  • In the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, it will make 493 hp and 331 pound-feet of torque, and according to Porsche’s Andreas Preuninger will emit “the most intense sound ever in a GT car.”
  • The 2022 Cayman GT4 RS will go on sale next summer in the U.S., priced at $143,050.

The long wait for an RS version of the Porsche Cayman is finally officially over. It’s less than a month since the company dropped images of a disguise-clad GT4 RS prototype being tested in the Alps, but now the finished car has been unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show, and it’s a stunner.

The earlier release told us the RS’s Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time but was more reticent about the technical details. We knew the first RS Cayman would use a naturally aspirated flat-six engine, but now the company has confirmed this will be the same 4.0-liter unit that is fitted to the 911 GT3. That’s the one that revs to 9000 rpm and makes a peak of 493 horsepower. The output represents a 79-hp increase over the existing Cayman GT4 and 10 hp less than the engine makes in the GT3, a difference that Andreas Preuninger, head of the GT department, says is down to engineering rather than marketing: “The longer exhaust system means a loss due to back pressure.”

In addition to the underhung rear wing, other aerodynamic changes include an adjustable front diffuser and a new front spoiler with “flow around” blades. The hood also incorporates NACA ducts, while the louvered vents on the fenders help to reduce air pressure within the wheel wells. Overall, the RS will make up to 25 percent more downforce than the regular GT4, with Preuninger saying that translates to around 220 pounds at 120 mph.
