The President of the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF) has been appointed as the head of the committee responsible for overseeing Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released on Friday by the Royal Office, it was announced that King Mohammed VI has appointed Fouzi Lekjaa, the minister delegate in charge of the Budget and president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), as the chairman of the committee responsible for Morocco’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The decision to join the bid was announced by King Mohammed VI on March 14, 2023, during a ceremony in Kigali which recognized his contributions to the development of African football. The Monarch emphasized in his message that the joint bid will unite Africa and Europe, the northern and southern Mediterranean, and the African, Arab, and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, bringing out the best in all of them.
Morocco’s football team made history at the Qatar World Cup finals by finishing fourth on the global stage, after defeating European powerhouses such as Spain, Portugal, and Belgium.
What are the chances of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal winning the bid?
It is difficult to predict the chances of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal winning the bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, as the selection process is complex and involves various factors such as infrastructure, logistics, and political considerations. However, the joint bid is unique and has the potential to unite different regions and cultures, making it an attractive option for FIFA. The decision on the host nation(s) for the 2030 World Cup is expected to be made in 2026, which will be based on a voting process by FIFA’s member associations.
