LeBron James enters N.B.A. health and safety protocols.
LeBron James was sidelined by the NBA’s Covid-19 health and safety protocols and, as a result, missed Tuesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, a team spokesperson confirmed to CNN.
It is unclear if LeBron James had tested positive for Covid-19 or whether he had come into close contact with someone who had.
Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said the team arranged for transportation to get James back to Los Angeles safely.
“Obviously, it’s a huge loss,” Vogel said Tuesday ahead of the game in Sacramento. “It’s disappointing. We just want the best for him right now.”
In September, James said he received the vaccine despite being skeptical at first.
“Everyone has their own choice to do what they feel is right for themselves and their family and things of that nature,” James told reporters in late September.
“I know that I was very skeptical about it all. But after doing my research and things of that nature, I felt like it was best suited for not only me but my family and my friends. That’s why I decided to do it.”
It’s unclear how long James will remain on the sidelines. The Lakers, though, did overcome his absence to rout the Kings 117-92.
James has only competed in half of his team’s 22 games this season after being sidelined with an abdominal injury and serving a one-game suspension.
The superstar was also fined $15,000 by the league after he made “an obscene gesture on the playing court” in Thursday’s overtime victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James has entered the N.B.A.’s coronavirus health and safety protocols, the team announced Tuesday.
James missed the team’s game Tuesday night against the Sacramento Kings and would likely miss at least 10 days if he is in the protocols because he tested positive for the coronavirus. The Lakers have yet to confirm that James has tested positive, but after the game James’s teammate Anthony Davis made comments that indicated that was the case.
“He said he’s good,” Davis told reporters. “I think he’s asymptomatic which is a good sign. We want to make sure that he gets back. Health is most important. It’s bigger than basketball.”
Lakers Coach Frank Vogel told reporters before the game that he found out Tuesday morning that James had entered the health and safety protocols. Vogel said the team arranged for James to get “back to L.A. safely.”
James, 36, said before the season that he had been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Typically, players who are vaccinated face less stringent requirements than unvaccinated players. After Thanksgiving, though, the league implemented enhanced testing requirements even for vaccinated players, according to documents sent by league officials to each of the 30 teams. They did so with the expectation that the holiday would increase players’ potential exposure to the virus.
Under the current guidelines, James would be forced to sit out for at least 10 days unless he was able to return multiple negative results for the virus.
LeBron James convinced ‘something REAL fishy’ going on amid COVID absence
James has thus far declined to elaborate on what exactly he thinks is fishy, but he used just about every fish emoji available to man in a Wednesday tweet to illustrate his point.
The Lakers played without James on Tuesday night and rallied to beat the Kings, 117-92.
“He said he’s good,” Anthony Davis said after the game in a further hint that James did indeed test positive. “I think he’s asymptomatic, which is a good sign, but we want to make sure that he gets back. Health is most important. This is bigger than basketball. He has a family. We want to make sure that he’s good no matter what.”
James said before the season that he had been vaccinated, but did not publicly advocate for others to get it. Currently, 97 percent of the NBA’s players are fully vaccinated.

James said that Rittenhouse must have eaten some Lemonheads—a popular sour candy—before taking the stand. He also noted that he didn’t see any tears coming out of Rittenhouse’s eyes.
Rittenhouse is on trial for killing two people and injuring a third during protests following the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer last summer.
Rittenhouse took the stand to explain what led to his shooting the first victim, Joseph Rosenbaum. He traveled from his home in Antioch, Ill., stating he wanted to help protect property from people protesting after the fatal shooting.
