How the F1 Driver of the Day Award Works

Every Formula 1 race weekend, fans have the opportunity to vote for the Driver of the Day through the official Formula 1 website and app. The winning driver receives an award to acknowledge their impressive performance during that particular Grand Prix.

How voting works

Within minutes after the start of the F1 race, fans can access a poll on the Formula 1 website and mobile app to cast their vote for the Driver of the Day. The list of candidates includes all 20 drivers competing in that weekend’s race.

Fans can vote once per day for free. Additional votes cost tokens that fans earn by logging in daily, playing games, or taking surveys on the Formula 1 platforms.

What the award represents

The Driver of the Day award recognizes the driver who had the best or most impressive race relative to expectations and circumstances. It does not necessarily go to the race winner.

Once voting closes at the end of the race, Formula 1 officials tally the votes and identify the Driver of the Day. The winning driver is presented with a trophy in parc fermé shortly after the race finishes.

Their team and achievement are also highlighted on Formula 1’s digital platforms and social media channels to celebrate their standout performance.
