Brooklyn Nets trading DeAndre Jordan to Detroit Pistons in salary dump for package including Jahlil Okafor

Brooklyn Nets | Detroit Pistons | DeAndre Jordan | Jahlil Okafor

The Nets are dealing Jordan, cash and four second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons in a salary dump that will send a package including Jahlil Okafor to Brooklyn, ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Per the report, the Pistons and Jordan are expected to negotiate a buyout, leaving the veteran center as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers as likely suitors.

The Nets signed Jordan to a four-year $40 million deal in 2019 as they rebuilt around Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Durant and Jordan are friends, and he and Irving reportedly took discounts to allow the Nets salary cap room to sign Jordan.

Jordan averaged 7.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and one block in 21.9 minutes per game in his two seasons in Brooklyn.

Nets trading Jordan, four second-round picks to Pistons for Okafor, Doumbouya

The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly trading centre DeAndre Jordan, four future second-round picks and $5.78 million to the Detroit Pistons for Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The picks sent to Detroit include: The Nets’ own 2022 and 2027 second-round picks, a 2024 second-round pick Brooklyn previously acquired from Washington and a 2025 second-rounder that had been acquired from Golden State.

For the Nets, the picks are the cost of trimming $47 million from their spending in both salary and taxes next season.

Jordan, likely, will not be a member of the Pistons for long. Detroit, according to Wojnarowski, plans to work through a buyout on the two-year, $20 million deal he is owed. Should he be bought out, he would become a free agent.

The Los Angeles Lakers would be a serious contender to sign him if he hits the open market, Wojnarowski added.
The 33-year-old appeared in 57 games last season, his second with the Nets. He averaged 7.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 76.3 per cent from the floor.

It is unclear at this time if the Nets believe Okafor or Doumbouya could be fringe role players in their rotation.

Okafor, 25, appeared in just 27 games with the Pistons last season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds.

Doumbouya, a former first-round pick, 15th overall, by the Pistons in 2019 played in 56 games last year. The 20-year-old averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game
