Golf Digest Tiger Woods Interview : Tiger Woods Speak About Car Crash and He says his days of being a full-time golfer are over

Tiger Woods says his days of being a full-time golfer are over: ‘Never full time, ever again’

“It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it.

In an exclusive interview with Golf Digest, Tiger Woods spoke publicly about his golfing future for the first time since his car crash earlier this year.

“I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day, never full time, ever again, but pick and choose, just like Mr. (Ben) Hogan did,” Woods told interviewer Henni Koyack.

“Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that. You practice around that, and you gear yourself up for that. And you play. I think that’s how I’m going to have to play it from now on.

“It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it.”

Woods began the remote interview from his South Florida home by walking into the room with what he called a slight “hitch” in his stride, evidence of the serious leg injuries suffered in a car crash near Los Angeles in February.

Woods says during his grueling rehabilitation, things as simple as watching his son play or listening to birds sing have taken on greater meaning.

“I have so far to go. … I’m not even at the halfway point. I have so much more muscle development and nerve development that I have to do in my leg. At the same time, as you know, I’ve had five back operations. So I’m having to deal with that. So as the leg gets stronger, sometimes the back may act up. … It’s a tough road.

“I’m just happy to be able to go out there and watch Charlie play, or go in the backyard and have an hour or two by myself with no one talking, no music, no nothing. I just hear the birds chirping. That part I’ve sorely missed.”

What is the net worth of Tiger Woods?

Tiger Woods: $800 Million.

Is Tiger Woods still a billionaire?

The 45-year-old is second all-time in major victories and is tied with Sam Snead for most wins on the PGA Tour.

In an exclusive interview with Gold Digest, he spoke about his golfing future for the first time since his car crash earlier this year.

Woods has won 15 majors in his career, the last coming at the 2019 Masters. Overall, he has 82 PGA tour wins, which is tied for the most all-time with Sam Snead.

Woods will be in attendance at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this week. The 20-man tournament benefits Woods’ foundation.

His extensive video interview with Golf Digest, with whom he has a financial relationship, was published Monday ahead of his first press conference since his right leg was badly damaged in a Feb. 23 car crash in the Los Angeles suburbs.

Tiger Woods Car Accident

Woods was recovering from another back procedure at the start of the year when he ran his SUV over a median and it toppled down a steep hill on a winding, sweeping road in the Los Angeles suburbs on his way to a television shoot at a golf course.

Doctors said he shattered tibia and fibula bones in his right leg in multiple locations. Those were stabilized by a rod in the tibia. A combination of screws and pins were used to stabilize additional injuries in the ankle and foot.

He last played at the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, and then had a fifth back procedure that kept him out the early part of the year before the accident.

Woods already had one remarkable comeback, winning the Masters in 2019 after fusion surgery, his fourth on his lower back. He won the Zozo Championship in Japan later in the year for his 82nd career victory on the PGA Tour, tying Sam Snead for the all-time record.

“I don’t have to compete and play against the best players in the world to have a great life. After my back fusion, I had to climb Mt. Everest one more time. I had to do it, and I did. This time around, I don’t think I’ll have the body to climb Mt. Everest, and that’s OK. I can still participate in the game of golf. I can still, if my leg gets OK, I can still click off a tournament here or there.

Tiger Woods ’doesn’t have the body to climb Mount Everest again

Tiger Woods has ruled out making a full-time return to professional golf as he works his way back from career-threatening leg injuries.

Before the accident, Woods was already playing a reduced schedule following multiple surgeries on his back and knee over the years.
He told Golf Digest on Monday that his days as a full-time member of the PGA Tour were now effectively over, saying he now expected to “pick and choose” events in future.

Who is Tiger Woods ?

Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods is an American professional golfer.

(born December 30, 1975)

He is tied for first in PGA Tour wins, ranks second in men’s major championships, and holds numerous golf records. Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of the most famous athletes in history. He is an inductee of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Following an outstanding junior, college, and amateur golf career, Woods turned professional in 1996 at the age of 20. By the end of April 1997, he won three PGA Tour events in addition to his first major, the 1997 Masters, which he won by 12 strokes in a record-breaking performance.

He reached number one in the world rankings for the first time in June 1997, less than a year after turning pro.

Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Woods was the dominant force in golf. He was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 consecutive weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 consecutive weeks). During this time, he won 13 of golf’s major championships.

It’s been over 9 months since Woods suffered comminuted open fractures to his right leg in a horrific Feb. 23 car crash near Los Angeles — and even though a detailed police report has been publicly released, there are still many questions that remain.

Tiger, though, clearly wanted no part of shedding light on those while on the podium in the Bahamas at the Hero World Challenge … adding that he does not have flashbacks to the terrifying scene.
