Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson recently spoke to Kinda Funny Games, confirming two Diablo 4 expansions to be in the works. The two sizeable expansions are being developed by two teams at Blizzard in parallel.
Diablo IV expansions? what are they?
Speaking with Kinda Funny Games, Fergusson said, “As I sit here we’re about to launch the main game, we’re finishing up season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re kicking off expansion two…we’re working on that now and we haven’t even launched the game.”
Fergusson further explains that the live-service structure of Diablo IV enables the inclusion of more substantial content over time, particularly in seasons, compared to how it was done in Diablo III. Fergusson previously indicated that expansions in Diablo IV will feature narrative questlines and provide a richer context for the seasons, in contrast to Diablo III’s focus on introducing and balancing mechanics.
Diablo 4 login problems don’t affect its expansions’ development
Even though there have been Diablo 4 login problems, Blizzard surpasses its predecessors in terms of post-release content with two expansions already released for Diablo IV. In comparison, both Diablo II and Diablo III received a single major expansion each. Although they received ongoing support through patches and other content updates. Blizzard has announced plans to update Diablo IV for “years” after its official launch. They have already unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for future updates.
Even though Diablo IV is still in early access, players have already achieved level 100 in Hardcore mode and earned recognition on Blizzard’s Lilith statue. The game is set to exit early access tomorrow, marking its full release.
