On July 9, Pokémon Go will host a Squirtle Community Day Classic event from 2-5 p.m. in your local time zone.

During the Community Day event, players can expect a significant increase in the spawn rate of Squirtle, along with an enhanced likelihood of encountering shiny Squirtle. Additionally, several other bonuses and perks will be available, as outlined below.

How To Catch a Shiny Squirtle?

Based on previous research conducted by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), it was found that shiny rates during Community Days are approximately 1 in 25. This implies that if you continue playing during the three-hour event, you will likely encounter many shiny Pokémon.

To save time or conserve Poké Balls, you can use an Incense and swiftly examine each Squirtle for shininess by tapping on them. You can move on to the next one if a Squirtle does not appear shiny. It is worth noting that Squirtles you have already checked will face your player’s direction, aiding in identifying which ones you have already assessed.

How To Catch a Squirtle With Sunglasses

Wild encounters of Squirtle wearing sunglasses will not occur during the Squirtle Community Day Classic. As stated on Niantic’s official page for the event, the sunglasses-wearing Squirtle will be available through event Field Research tasks.

To obtain this unique Squirtle variant, you must catch Squirtle as part of the Field Research task. Make sure to spin PokéStops to acquire these research tasks if you want a turtle with sunglasses.

During Squirtle Community Day Classic, the following bonuses will be in effect:

• ¹⁄₄ hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
• Incense lasts three hours
• Lure Modules lasts three hours
• Squirtle special photobombs when taking snapshots
