Beyond Good and Evil 2's director, Emile Morel found dead at 40

Ubisoft game designer and creative director for Beyond Good and Evil 2, Emile Morel, has tragically passed away at the age of 40.

His death was first noticed on LinkedIn, where two colleagues of Morel expressed their condolences and paid tribute to him.

“A cherished colleague for over a decade at Ubisoft Montpellier, we laughed and wept through good times and bad, and shipped a lot of great games together,” Morel’s former colleague M. Gabrielle Shrager wrote on LinkedIn. “Emile was so very proud of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the Space Monkeys and his teammates. He will be sorely missed.”

According to information found on Morel’s LinkedIn page, he joined Ubisoft in June 2009 and worked on various projects, including Rayman Legends, where he was a senior game designer. Morel’s involvement in Beyond Good and Evil 2 began as the Associate Creative Director, and he later took on the role of creative director after Jean-Marc Geffroy’s departure.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 unveiled at E3 in 2017, but since then, Ubisoft has remained silent about the game’s progress. As of February 2022, it was revealed that the game was still in pre-production. In August of the same year, Sarah Arellano was hired as the lead writer for the game.
