Cyberpunk 2077 Finally Sitting at Positive Steam Reviews

Through the diligent efforts of the developers at CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 has successfully rehabilitated its severely tarnished reputation, once plagued by many bugs. Numerous patches have been implemented, significantly improving the game’s standing, as evidenced by its current 80 percent positive rating on Steam with favorable reviews.

Initially slated for release in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 generated unparalleled anticipation in the gaming community. From its announcement in early 2013 to the awe-inspiring E3 trailer featuring Keanu Reeves in 2019, the game generated immense excitement among players. Despite several delays, the anticipation remained palpable as the release date approached.

Regrettably, Cyberpunk 2077 encountered one of the most disastrous launches in gaming history. Players encountered numerous game-breaking bugs and substantial performance issues across console and PC platforms. Once highly coveted, the game became flooded with negative reviews and prompted an influx of refund requests.

The situation was so dire that even Microsoft and Sony, known for their stringent refund policies, granted complete reimbursements to dissatisfied players. Due to these events, CD Projekt Red, the game’s development studio, faced a class action lawsuit. The repercussions were severe, with Sony even going as far as removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store entirely.

Cyberpunk 2077’s positive reviews are the result of years of bug fixes

The developers at CD Projekt Red diligently addressed the numerous bugs in Cyberpunk 2077, making significant improvements over time. Their efforts yielded promising results, leading to the game’s reinstatement on the PlayStation Store after a six-month delisting. Remarkably, upon its return, Cyberpunk 2077 soared to the top of the “best-selling” list within the marketplace, reflecting its regained popularity.

After nearly three years since its release, fans celebrated a milestone achievement for Cyberpunk 2077. Community manager Marcin Momot took to Twitter to express his joy as the game reached the “Very Positive” rating threshold on Steam, with 80 percent of favorable reviews. This marked a significant turnaround from its turbulent launch period, during which it garnered over 60,000 negative reviews on Steam within the first month alone.

Many reviews highlight the stark contrast between the initial release phase of Cyberpunk and its current state, while others still maintain the humorous and meme-centric nature that has always characterized the Cyberpunk fanbase. Despite the notable improvements, a few negative reviews exist, primarily stemming from disgruntled fans disappointed that the game’s final DLC is a paid expansion.

CD Projekt Red had indeed promised free DLC releases for the game, and they fulfilled that promise.

Nevertheless, the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion will be the ultimate addition to Cyberpunk 2077, presenting CD Projekt Red with a significant opportunity to enhance the game’s positive reception further. The true impact of this expansion will only be known after its launch on September 26.
