Fable, the beloved fantasy RPG series, is making a comeback with a reboot that promises to be a hilarious and whimsical adventure in the land of Albion. The game was first announced last year with a cinematic teaser, but today we got to see a new trailer that showcases the game’s humor, graphics, and characters.

Meet Dave, the giant vegetable enthusiast
The trailer starts with a narration by Dave, a giant who lives in Albion and loves growing enormous vegetables. He tells us that the age of heroes is over, and that the world is now peaceful and boring. He shows us his prize-winning carrot, which he claims is bigger than any hero he’s ever seen.
However, his monologue is interrupted by a loud noise, and he turns around to see a young woman climbing a beanstalk that leads to his garden. She is armed with a sword and a bow, and looks ready to fight. Dave is annoyed by this intrusion, and tries to swat her away with his hand. He says that heroes are nothing but trouble, and that they should leave him and his vegetables alone.
The trailer then cuts to a montage of scenes from the game, featuring various locations, monsters, and characters. We see a dragon breathing fire, a fairy flying around, a troll smashing things, and a group of bandits attacking a village. We also see some familiar faces from the Fable series, such as Theresa, the blind seeress who guides the heroes; Reaver, the immortal pirate king who loves shooting things; and Jack of Blades, the masked villain who seeks to control Albion.
The trailer ends with a logo that simply says “Fable”, followed by a tagline that reads “Coming soon to Game Pass”. The trailer also notes that everything we saw was in-game footage, which means that the game will look stunning on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
What to expect from Fable
Fable is being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. This is their first venture into RPGs, but they have proven their skills in creating immersive open-world games with beautiful graphics and dynamic gameplay.
Fable will be a reboot of the series, which means that it will not be a direct sequel to Fable III, which came out in 2010. Instead, it will be a fresh start for the franchise, with new stories, characters, and mechanics. However, it will still retain the core elements that made Fable so popular, such as:
- A choice-based morality system that affects your appearance, reputation, and abilities
- A rich and diverse world filled with magic, humor, and secrets
- A customizable hero who can shape their own destiny
- A witty and charming tone that balances comedy and drama
Fable does not have a release date yet, but it will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. This means that you can play it for free if you have a subscription to Microsoft’s gaming service.
