Square Enix plans a 5th anniversary broadcast to honor Octopath Traveler

Square Enix has declared its intention to host a special 5th anniversary live stream for its HD-2D RPG Octopath Traveler.

Next month, on July 13th at 8 pm JST, Square Enix will organize an event that will encompass a “memorial corner” reflecting on the series’ history, the outcomes of a user survey, and include appearances by SE producer Masashi Takahashi and Acquire director Keisuke Miyauchi.

No specific announcements is out yet, but if any news arises, we will inform you promptly.

This commemorative live stream celebrates the recent launch and anniversary of Octopath Traveler 2 on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. The sequel received positive reviews, and the game has now surpassed the milestone of shipping over one million units.

In April, the game’s director openly discussed the future of the Octopath Traveler series, indicating that the team had engaged in casual conversations about the potential evolution of the series.

In regards to a sequel, director Keisuke Miyauchi revealed a part of his plans about the popular series back in August when talking to the Japanese outlet Famitsu, when he said:

“We haven’t decided clearly on future developments yet, but we have casually chatted about what could evolve in the future.”

The remainder of the team appears to prioritize taking a break before genuinely considering a third installment, even joking about being “out of ideas.” However, Miyauchi’s response at least provides promising prospects for the future of the series.
