Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, the third game in the open-world racing sub-series, has been delayed once again.
The game was initially supposed to launch in September 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, Nacon announced last May that the game had been delayed to 2023 and that the PS4 and Xbox One versions had been cancelled. Now, according to a recent Nacon financial report, the game is scheduled to release in the first quarter of 2024.
The Feedback to the News
This news comes as a disappointment to fans who have been eagerly anticipating the game’s release. However, many are understanding of the delay, as they want KT Racing to have enough time to effectively re-launch the Test Drive series for modern audiences. The last game in the series was released back in 2011, so fans are willing to wait a little longer to get their hands on the next one.
Gameplay
The financial report also lists over 100 licensed prestige car brands that will be included in the game. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown takes place in Hong Kong Island, built at a 1:1 scale, and is described as “an open world driving and lifestyle experience.” The game allows players to progress however they like, with the classic open championship concept returning. Players can race, cruise, and hang out with friends until the sun goes down and even after.

The Development Process
While the delay is disappointing, it’s not entirely surprising. KT Racing has been working on the game for six years and is still in the fine-tuning stage. The studio has no prior experience making open-world racers, and Test Drive has a dedicated fanbase that expects a polished game. Nacon’s Alain Falc has promised that the studio will support the game with free and paid DLC for “between five and ten years.”
It remains to be seen why the game keeps getting delayed. KT Racing has been releasing monthly newsletters with gameplay details, but there was no newsletter in June, which caused alarm bells to ring. Fans are now eagerly awaiting more information about the game’s release date.
In the meantime, fans can take comfort in knowing that KT Racing is taking the time to make sure Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is the best game it can be. The delay may be disappointing, but it’s better than releasing a game that’s not ready.
