Devs reveal what’s coming to Valorant in 2023 in an updating style video called dev diary.
What is Valorant?
Valorant is a popular first-person tactical hero shooter game developed and published by Riot Games for Windows. The game was inspired by the Counter-Strike series of tactical shooters and features a team-based gameplay set in the near future, where players take on the role of Agents, characters based on several countries and cultures around the world.
In the main game mode, players are assigned to either the attacking or defending team, with each team having five players on it. Agents have unique abilities, each requiring charges, as well as a unique ultimate ability that requires charging through kills, deaths, orbs, or objectives. Every player starts each round with a “classic” pistol and one or more “signature ability” charges. Other weapons and ability charges can be purchased using an in-game economic system that awards money based on the outcome of the previous round, any kills the player is responsible for, and any objectives completed.
The game offers an assortment of weapons, including secondary guns like sidearms and primary guns like submachine guns, shotguns, machine guns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. Each weapon has a unique shooting pattern that has to be controlled by the player to be able to shoot accurately.
Currently, the game features 22 agents to choose from, each with their unique abilities. Players initially get five unlocked agents when they create their account and have to unlock the rest of the agents by activating their contracts and earning a certain amount of XP by playing games.

The New Agents
Valorant originally announced three agents for 2023. Gekko, a brand-new initiator, was released on March 7. The other two agents have yet to be revealed or released.
Agent 23, A New Sentinel For Valorant in 2023
Agent 23 is expected to be a sentinel. Sentinels are the ultimate defenders in the world of gaming, specializing in locking down sites and safeguarding their comrades from rival forces. These titans wield a range of static objects that create formidable barriers for enemies while also providing invaluable intel and inflicting damage. On the offensive, Sentinels can strategically cut off key areas of the map or deploy nifty objects to thwart flanking attempts by the enemy. When on the defensive, Sentinels can slow down the enemy’s advance into a site, buying precious time for their squad mates to arrive and provide backup. A new sentinel is sure to bring a whole new dynamic to the meta.
Agent 23’s Abilities
We have a few teasers as to what Agent 23’s abilities could include. The developers have described her as someone who can “stop you dead in your tracks and pull you in for a closer look.”
Valorant’s developers have been known to choose their words with intent behind them. Fans believe that their exact words describe one of the agent’s abilities in detail and that they’re imagining something along the lines of Lifeweaver’s Life Grip from Overwatch 2.
Agent 23’s Lore
In the teaser image that Riot provided, you can see mostly two details that stand out. A mug of coffee and a plate of waffles. As Valorant fans like to theorize, this immediately led to them thinking the new agent must be from Belguim, as Belguim is known for waffles.
However, later with the Firing Range messages pointing to Norway, the general theory swung to a new country. Riot has not confirmed either of those theories.
Agent 23’s Release Window
All we have for the release date are rumours and speculations. Riot tends to reveal an agent with the Grand Finals of the VCT. Both Gekko and Fade were announced in the finale of VCT, and with VCT Masters Tokyo coming up, it looks like Riot may be planning to execute the same thing.
All that said, no actual dates were provided by Riot. The only confirmed information we have is that it will be in 2023.
The other agent is expected to be a controller or a dualist, but we do not know anything about them.
HURM, Or TDM, In Episode 7 of Valorant in 2023
On August 5, 2020, a thrilling new mode was added to the game: Deathmatch. In this adrenaline-fueled frenzy, 14 players battle it out in a free-for-all match that lasts 9 heart-pumping minutes. The objective? Rack up an impressive 40 kills before anyone else, or secure the highest kill count when the clock runs out. Every player spawns with a random agent and full shields while all abilities are disabled, making this an all-out gunfight. But don’t worry – green health packs drop on every kill, providing a reset to maximum health and armour, along with an additional 30 bullets for each of your guns. It’s a no-holds-barred smackdown in which only the strongest and most skilled will emerge victorious.
What’s Wrong With Deathmatch?
Currently, many players are struggling with Deathmacth. The number one complaint is bad spawns. The maps aren’t designed for a rapid-kill, one-for-all setting, and it shows. Another problem is the disparity of intentions with Deathmatch. Some are just there for fun and warming up, and some are “tryhards”. In general, fans have been complaining about the mode for a while now, and change seemed necessary.
What Will Team Deathmatch Look Like?
First and foremost, custom maps. Developers have announced that they are adding custom maps for TDM, and it’s looking like it could fix a lot of issues.
Other than that, you also get to use your agent’s abilities now. However, we do not know which agents are going to be available for this model.
In this new mode, two teams of five will be going against each other with their map pick and their abilities. Another problem fixed by this is the overpolluted nature of the death match. By switching it from 12 players to 10, Riot may finally be able to satisfy its players.
TDM Release Date
Team Deathmatch will be released alongside Episode 7 on June 26 or 27. The date is dependent on your time zone.
