America Chavez MCU

America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) in her distinctive star-adorned denim jacket as she makes her way into a rundown temple, possibly an abandoned Kamar-Taj.
She and Wanda are later seen behind Strange as he opens a mystical doorway to another dimension, and America also features later in the trailer when Strange splits a bus in half to save them.

Is America Chavez coming to the MCU?

Don’t worry, you didn’t miss anything, America is a brand-new addition to the MCU, leaping off the pages of Marvel Comics like so many superheroes have before her.

America Chavez Powers

She’s a talented teen, and in the comics she was raised in a pocket dimension before joining the Young Avengers. Her powers include flight, super speed, super toughness, and strength, but its her multiversal powers that will be essential in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, because America can also create portals that allow people to jump between realities. She can see the breadth of the multiverse, too, which should come in handy!

why she’s such an important addition to the MCU in its truly multiversal Phase 4.

Who is Miss America (America Chavez) ?

America Chavez, also known by her moniker Miss America, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta, Chavez is the second character to use the moniker Miss America, after Madeline Joyce.

Chavez first appeared in Vengeance #1 (Sept. 2011) before joining the Young Avengers and later starring in her own ongoing series, America, in March 2017 by writer Gabby Rivera. As a lesbian, she is Marvel’s first Latin-American LGBTQ character to star in an ongoing series.

The character will make her live-action film debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, portrayed by Xochitl Gomez.

Who will play America Chavez in MCU?

Actress Xochitl Gomez

The Doctor Strange sequel will also feature the first MCU appearance of actress Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

The character, also known as Ms. America, is a powerful and formidable hero capable of — wait for it — creating portals that allow her to travel freely through time and the multiverse.

In other words, she’s a hero with an ability that makes her uniquely well-suited to combatting a time-traveling, multiverse-hopping villain like Kang. In fact, she may be the hero that the other Avengers end up relying on during their final fight against Kang.

Who is America Chavez in Doctor Strange 2?

America Chavez was born in the Utopian Parallel, a peaceful dimension that exists outside of time and was created by an omnipotent being known as the Demiurge, who also happens to be William Kaplan a.k.a. Wiccan a.k.a. one of Wanda Maximoff’s twin sons (it’s hard to explain).

Growing up in the presence of the Demiurge resulted in America absorbing superpowers that, among other things, allow her to smash open star portals that let her travel through the multiverse.

Her mothers sacrificed themselves to save the Utopian Parallel from a dangerous threat when she was just six years old. Out of grief, she punched open a star portal and left the Utopian Parallel in the hopes of one day proving herself to be a hero that her mothers would be proud of.

Her journeys through the multiverse eventually led to her being a member of a number of notable Marvel comics teams, including the Teen Brigade, the Ultimates, A-Force, West Coast Avengers, Hel-Rangers, and Young Avengers. She identifies as a lesbian and has a close friendship in the comics with Kate Bishop, the character Hailee Steinfeld will play in the upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye.

In addition to being able to create star portals, America can fly and has superhuman speed, strength, and invulnerability. She lives longer than normal human beings on Earth and can harness the powerful energy within her to deal devastatingly powerful physical attacks.

Breaking Down Spider-Man: No Way Home’s End Credits Surprise

Let’s break down that wild footage at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

America Chavez Doctor Strange

Marvel Studios released a first teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and there was a lot to unpack! Benedict Cumberbatch is back as Stephen Strange in the sequel, which has now shifted release dates and will finally arrive on May 6, 2022, all things being well.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness takes place in a post-Avengers: Endgame world where the multiverse has been opened up following the game-changing events of Marvel’s Loki TV series. In that show, the reformed God of Mischief and an escaped Variant version of himself, Sylvie, tracked down the man responsible for overseeing and manipulating the “sacred” single MCU timeline, and Sylvie eventually killed him. This apparently kickstarted the multiverse again and allowed infinite universes to emerge, and many of these were then explored in the animated show What If…?.

Be assured that there will be no further spoilers about Spider-Man: No Way Home in this article outside of pre-release marketing materials, and you should be able to proceed safely from here on in, if you so wish.

Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

“The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.” Watch the official teaser for Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

America Chavez was raised by her mothers in the Utopian Parallel, a reality that is out of time and in the presence of the being known as the Demiurge.

She appears to have inherited or absorbed some or all of her superpowers from the Demiurge’s ambient magical presence. When America was approximately six years old, the Utopian Parallel was threatened by destruction.

America’s mothers sacrificed themselves to seal the black holes resulting in their particles being smeared across the Multiverse itself.  Wanting to prove herself as a hero and knowing Utopia didn’t require salvation, America ran away from her home and her responsibilities.

She traveled across different realities, eventually adopted the moniker of Miss America, and began covertly acting as a superhero.

Miss America eventually joined the Teen Brigade and served as co-leader with Ultimate Nullifier.

With the Teen Brigade, she freed the In-Betweener from the government confinement center, Groom Lake Adjacent in Nevada.

With information from the In-Betweener, the Teen Brigade set out to prevent the Young Masters of Evil from disrupting the balance between chaos and order.

To stop the Young Masters from recruiting Kid Loki, Miss America broke into the Metropolitan Art Museum, but Loki used the Screaming Idol to send her to the Sixth Dimension.

There she fought Tiboro, and was later rescued by the Last Defenders, She-Hulk and Daimon Hellstrom, under the direction of the In-Betweener.

She rejoined her teammates in Latveria where they fought the Braak’nhüd, Young Masters and Doctor Doom. The battle was ended when Ultimate Nullifier shot the In-Betweener. While the smoke cleared, the Teen Brigade covertly departed.

Miss America would later part ways with the Teen Brigade due to “musical differences”.
