This evening, during an over-the-top ceremony that capped off a historic D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event weekend, The Walt Disney Company honored 14 new Disney Legends who have left an indelible mark on the company’s historic legacy.
The 2024 honorees included Colleen Atwood, Angela Bassett, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Miley Cyrus, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams.
Kelly Ripa was officially honored as a “Disney Legend.”
The star-studded ceremony was held at D23.
Ripa was among fellow honorees Harrison Ford, Miley Cyrus, James Cameron and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Miley Cyrus became a first-time Grammy winner this year, and now she’s been named a Disney Legend.
At past D23 events, Disney had only teased the idea of a land devoted to Villains or what else may lie beyond Big Thunder Mountain.
Now we know what’s actually coming. Here are some of the biggest reveals from Saturday’s Disney Experiences Showcase.
A new Villains land is coming with two major attractions as well as shopping and dining areas.
A section of Frontierland will be reimagined with Cars. Unlike Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, this will remain part of Frontierland. The new space will have two attractions, one created especially with younger guests in mind. Construction will begin in 2025.
This year’s ceremony, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, was the largest in the 37 years since the first Disney Legend was honored, with a Hollywood-level production that brought the magic of this historic event to even greater heights.
And for the first time ever, the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning Monday, August 12 at 2pm PT/5pm ET.
History is being made as Disney has announced the largest Magic Kingdom Park expansion to date. And at the center of this expansion is a new land inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ Cars franchise. Lighting McQueen and crew will be racing into a reimagined area of Frontierland that will feature two all-new attractions, including a “thrilling off-road rally race” taking guests beyond the fictional Radiator Springs. “Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.”
