Hunter Schafer is speaking out about her relationship with Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike.
The pair confirmed their relationship early 2022, but seemingly had split by the summer of 2023.
A full year has passed since Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike ended their brief relationship, but the actress is still grappling with the impact of their time together. During a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 25-year-old revealed that while they split amicably, she was left “fundamentally changed” by the experience of being cheated on for the first time.
“It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person. And it was this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you at all,” Schafer explained. “And it has everything to do with that person and whatever kind of pain they’re in or whatever they’re dealing with. It’s all of that, but it’s so hard.”
Now, during an interview on “Call Her Daddy,” Hunter is speaking out about the relationship.
“It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had. We both recognized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We got to go our own separate ways. It was so, so hard because we really loved each other. He’s a really special person and I love his soul and everything,” Hunter shared.
“Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” Hunter recalled on the Aug. 7 episode of Call Her Daddy. “It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person.”
After the 25-year-old—who noted that Dominic, 28, was the first cis, straight-identifying man she’d ever dated—found out about her former partner’s infidelity, she admitted she blamed herself at first.
“As a trans woman, with a man who has never dated that [type of person] before,” she emphasized. “Because of the way I’ve been socialized as a trans woman, it’s been this crux in my life of what life has been so hard sometimes, I was like, ‘Oh, god is this it? Can I just not?’”

Schafer and Fike, 28, went public with their relationship in February 2022 after starring as Jules and Elliot, respectively, on HBO’s Euphoria. The former couple weren’t shy about sharing their relationship with fans, but by July 2023, Fike confirmed that he and Schafer had split.
